Added Value of Multiparametric Magnetic Resonance Imaging to Clinical Nomograms for Predicting Adverse Pathology in Prostate Cancer
2018
PURPOSE: We examined the additional value of preoperative prostate multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging and transrectal ultrasound/multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging fusion guided targeted biopsy when performed in combination with clinical nomograms to predict adverse pathology at radical prostatectomy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We identified all patients who underwent 3 Tesla multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging prior to fusion biopsy and radical prostatectomy. The Partin and the MSKCC (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center) preradical prostatectomy nomograms were applied to estimate the probability of organ confined disease, extraprostatic extension, seminal vesicle inva…
Role of apparent diffusion coefficient values in prostate diseases characterization on diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging.
2019
BACKGROUND: To evaluate if normal and pathological prostate tissue can be distinguished by using apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and to understand if it is possible to differentiate among pathological prostate tissues using ADC values.METHODS:Our population consisted in 81 patients (mean age 65.4 years) in which 84 suspicious areas were identified. Regions of interest were placed over suspicious areas, detected on MRI, and over areas with normal appearance, and ADC values were recorded. Statistical differences between ADC values of suspicious and normal areas were evaluated. Histopathological diagnosis, obtained from targeted biopsy using MRI-…
Challenges and Opportunities using MultiChain for Real Estate
2019
The real estate market involves multiple untrusted actors with contrasting objectives. We propose REchain, a blockchain-based platform for real estate, which provides benefits to all actors in terms of transparency, trust, immutability, and traceability. REchain architecture handles real estate data through well-defined workflows that leverage the MultiChain platform. REchain changes the real estate market enabling direct transactions without intermediaries, and providing new mechanisms for negotiating the purchase conditions. This paper refutes the misleading idea of using blockchains for solving generic problems as blockchain platforms have peculiar features that make them suitable for sp…
BlockSee: Blockchain for IoT video surveillance in smart cities
2018
The growing demand for safety in urban environments is supported by monitoring using video surveillance. The need to analyze multiple video-flows from different cameras deployed around the city by heterogeneous owners introduces vulnerabilities and privacy issues. Video frames, timestamps, and camera settings can be digitally manipulated by malicious users; the positions of cameras, their orientation and their mechanical settings can be physically manipulated. Digital and physical manipulations may have several effects, including the change of the observed scene and the potential violation of neighbors' privacy. To face these risks, we introduce BlockSee, a blockchain-based video surveillan…
Dissemination of Spanish Social Sciences and Humanities Journals
2005
The presence of scholarly journals in international data bases promotes the dissemination of research results and also facilitates requests for specific articles or journals by end users. As scientists seek optimal visibility for their work and wish their results to be published in journals with high circulation, it is important to know which are the leading journals within each scientific area. This paper contains a bibliometric study of scientific journals in the areas of Social Sciences and Humanities that are currently published in Spain, together with information concerning their production and circulation in the different national and international bibliographical data bases, publishe…
Ergonomics Awareness and Employee Performance: An Exploratory Study
2017
The study examined the effects of ergonomics on employee performance by ascertaining the level of ergonomics awareness in Nigerian organizations, identifying the factors hindering the use of ergonomic, and the best practices and methods adopted by various organizations across industries. Despite a knowledge of importance to a growing number of researchers in Nigeria, there is still a dearth in knowledge of ergonomics design and its implementation in Nigeria. This can be observed in the low level of its adoption. The study adopted an exploratory approach through the review of literature. It was seen that several factors have hindered the efficient implementation of ergonomics in Nigeria whic…
Wavefront holoscopy: application of digital in-line holography for the inspection of engraved marks in progressive addition lenses
2014
Progressive addition lenses (PALs) are engraved with permanent marks at standardized locations in order to guarantee correct centering and alignment throughout the manufacturing and mounting processes. Out of the production line, engraved marks provide useful information about the PAL as well as act as locator marks to re-ink again the removable marks. Even though those marks should be visible by simple visual inspection with the naked eye, engraving marks are often faint and weak, obscured by scratches, and partially occluded and difficult to recognize on tinted or antireflection-coated lenses. Here, we present an extremely simple optical device (named as wavefront holoscope) for visualiza…
Holographic in-situ measurements of the spatial droplet distribution in stratiform clouds
1998
Ground based in-situ measurements on the small-scale structure of low-level stratiform clouds have been performed utilizing the HOlographic Droplet and Aerosol Recording system (HODAR) of the University of Mainz, Germany. 6 holograms recorded during stratus cloud events on the Kleiner Feldberg Taunus Mountain Observatory (Frankfurt, Germany) were reconstructed in the laboratory and analysed by means of an automated data extraction and image processing system. In post-processing, each originally recorded droplet population was subjected to 2 statistical methods: (1) the sub-cell scanning analyses with statistical “Fishing” tests and (2) measurements of inter-droplet distance frequency distri…
Benign, preinvasive and invasive ductal breast lesions. A comparative study with quantitative techniques: morphometry, image- and flow cytometry.
1999
The histological distinction between ductal hyperplasia of the breast, atypical ductal hyperplasia and ductal carcinoma in situ is difficult and subjective. To gain a better understanding of these lesions, we performed a comparative study comprising 20 cases of ductal hyperplasia without atypia, 20 cases of ductal hyperplasia with atypia, and 30 cases of ductal carcinoma in situ (well-, moderately- and poorly-differentiated), using quantitative techniques: image cytometry analysis, morphometry and DNA analysis, and DNA flow cytometry. Our results confirm that the mean nuclear area and volume progressively decreased from ductal carcinoma in situ to ductal hyperplasia without atypia. The diff…
Predicting the Success of Blastocyst Implantation from Morphokinetic Parameters Estimated through CNNs and Sum of Absolute Differences
2019
The process of In Vitro Fertilization deals nowadays with the challenge of selecting viable embryos with the highest probability of success in the implantation. In this topic, we present a computer-vision-based system to analyze the videos related to days of embryo development which automatically extracts morphokinetic features and estimates the success of implantation. A robust algorithm to detect the embryo in the culture image is proposed to avoid artifacts. Then, the ability of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for predicting the number of cells per frame is novelty combined with the Sum of Absolute Differences (SAD) signal in charge of capturing the amount of intensity changes durin…
