Various Approaches to Early Contractor Involvement in Relational Contracts
2021
Abstract The main rationale for involving contractors is to apply collaboration to mitigate risk and to harvest opportunities to reduce cost and to increase the project owner’s value. In the paper we argue in the applied analytical model that there are four levels of early contractor involvement (ECI), which are 1) Preparation of the project (before sparking off competition); 2) During the procurement phase (development of what to build); 3) Project delivery model (before construction contract, but after the contractor and designers are selected); 4) Project delivery model (where involvement also continues in the execution phase). In the paper we argue that category 4 have the largest poten…
Universal Design of ICT for Emergency Management
2018
The primary objectives of this article are to give a systematic overview of the current state of the emerging research field of Universal Design of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Emergency Management, and to highlight high-impact research opportunities to ensure that the increasing introduction of ICT in Emergency Management can contribute to removing barriers instead of adding more barriers, in particular for the elderly and people with disabilities. A systematic review on various literature with respect to Universal Design, ICT and Emergency Management between 2008 to 2018 was employed in this study, and reviewed systematically using a predefined framework. The ultimat…
Data Modelling for Dynamic Monitoring of Vital Signs: Challenges and Perspectives
2017
The use-case described in this paper covers data acquisition and real-time analysis of the gathered medical data from wearable sensor system. Accumulated data is essential for monitoring vital signs and tracking the dynamics of the treatment process of disabled patients or patients undergoing the recovery after traumatic knee joint injury (e.g. post-operative rehabilitation). The main goal of employing the wearable sensor system is to conduct rehabilitation process more effectively and increase the rate of successful rehabilitation. The results of data analysis of patient’s vital signs and feedback allow a physiotherapist to adjust the rehabilitation scenario on the fly. In this paper, we f…
Creating a sustainable digital infrastructure: The role of service-oriented architecture
2021
Abstract The United Nations’ goal of generating sustainable industry, innovation, and infrastructure is the point of departure for our reflective paper. The paper elaborates on the concepts of digital infrastructure, service-oriented architecture, and microservices. It emphasizes the benefits and challenges of creating a sustainable infrastructure based on a service-oriented environment, in which cloud services constitute an important part. We outline the prerequisites for obtaining a sustainable digital infrastructure based on services. Service-oriented architecture (SOA) and recently, microservice architecture, and cloud services, can provide organizations with the improved agility and fl…
Study of the imaging conditions and processing for the aspect control of specular surfaces
2001
A vision system capable of imaging and detecting defects on reflective nonplanar surfaces in the production line at a high cadence is presented in this paper. Defects are typically dust located under the metallic layer of packaging products used in cosmetic industries. To realize this processing, structured lighting which reveals the defects in the image is proposed. Defects appear clearly in the images like a set of brilliant pixels in dark zones. The signature of the defect is then obtained. The size of this signature does not depend linearly on the size of the defect. It is a function of the observation angle. In order to realize a precise and robust process, the necessity of acquiring s…
Method for Estimating the Manual Nesting Process Efficiency for Profiling Machines, Based upon Image Processing Techniques
2015
The paper presents a method for estimating the efficiency of the manual nesting process. By using the graphic file generated during the nesting process and using image processing techniques, the method allows the user to calculate the percentage of material used for manufacturing the parts. The method combines a manual approach - the user has to select some specific points on the graphic file with the mouse, with some image processing algorithms form Matlab software package.

This is as opposed to the asymptotic steady-state analysis for which there are, probabl…
Neural network approach to solving fuzzy nonlinear equations using Z-numbers
2020
In this article, the fuzzy property is described by means of the Z-number as the coefficients and variables of the fuzzy equations. This alteration for the fuzzy equation is appropriate for system modeling with Z-number parameters. In this article, the fuzzy equation with Z-number coefficients and variables is tended to be used as the models for the uncertain systems. The modeling issue related to the uncertain system is to obtain the Z-number coefficients and variables of the fuzzy equation. Nevertheless, it is extremely hard to get the Z-number coefficients of the fuzzy equations. In this article, in order to model the uncertain nonlinear systems, a novel structure of the multilayer neura…
A Non-linear Diffeomorphic Framework for Prostate Multimodal Registration
2011
International audience; This paper presents a novel method for non-rigid registration of prostate multimodal images based on a nonlinear framework. The parametric estimation of the non-linear diffeomorphism between the 2D fixed and moving images has its basis in solving a set of non-linear equations of thin-plate splines. The regularized bending energy of the thin-plate splines along with the localization error of established correspondences is jointly minimized with the fixed and transformed image difference; where, the transformed image is represented by the set of non-linear equations defined over the moving image. The traditional thin-plate splines with established correspondences may p…
Computer-Aided Diagnosis for Prostate Cancer using Multi-Parametric Magnetic Resonance Imaging
2016
Prostate cancer (CaP) is the second most diagnosed cancer in men all over the world.CaP growth is characterized by two main types of evolution: (i) the slow-growing tumours progress slowly and usually remain confined to the prostate gland; (ii) the fast-growing tumours metastasize from prostate gland to other organs, which might lead to incurable diseases. Therefore, early diagnosis and risk assessment play major roles in patient treatment and follow-up.In the last decades, new imaging techniques based on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) have been developed improving diagnosis. In practise, diagnosis can be affected by multiple factors such as observer variability and visibility and complexit…
