Katsaus virtuaalitodellisuuden syöttölaitteiden toteutusteknologioihin
2016
Virtuaalitodellisuuden syöttölaitteista on olemassa julkista tutkimusta varsin niukasti, vaikka ne ovat virtuaalitodellisuudelle korvaamattoman tärkeitä. Syöttölaitteiden tärkeintehtäväontuottaakäyttäjälleluonnollinenkäyttöliittymävirtuaalitodellisuuteen.Käyt- töliittymän luonnollisuus mahdollistaa käyttäjän immersoitumisen eli täydellisen uppoutu- misen virtuaalikokemukseen. Esittelen tässä tutkielmassa yleisimpiä nykyaikaisissa virtuaa- litodellisuuden syöttölaitteissa käytettyjä paikannusteknologoita ja pohdin niiden vaikutusta immersioon. Although, virtual reality input devices are irreplaceable for virtual reality, there is little public research on the subject. The most important func…
Immunomodulatory effects of dietary β-1,3-glucan from Euglena gracilis in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) immersion vaccinated against Yersinia r…
2012
Abstract Potential immunostimulatory effects of orally administered β-glucan were investigated in combination with immersion vaccination against enteric redmouth disease caused by Yersinia ruckeri in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). A linear, unbranched and pure (purity ≥98%) β-1,3-glucan (syn. paramylon) from the alga Euglena gracilis was applied at an inclusion level of 1% β-glucan in feed administered at a rate of 1% biomass day−1 for 84 consecutive days. Fish were vaccinated after two weeks of experimental feeding and bath challenged with live Y. ruckeri six weeks post-vaccination. Blood and head kidney were sampled at day 0, 13 (1 day pre-vaccination), 15, 55, 59 (day 3 post-challe…
Study of control command of dynamic platform for driving simulation and influence on simulator sickness
2013
Simulation has been intensively involved nowadays in research and development for automotive industry. Driving simulators are one of those simulation techniques which are used to evaluate the prototypes for the vehicle dynamics and driving assistance systems. However with the driving simulator, there is a lock associated with its use. Because representing a permanent scenario as scale 1 is quite difficult. Because of that difficulty, motion/simulator sickness is an inevitably important topic to study. This thesis proposes to explore methods and tools to implement in static or dynamic simulators. In this implementation, studies of simulator sickness are conducted with objective measures (via …
Atoms embedded in an electron gas: Immersion energies
1981
Energies of atoms, H through Ar, embedded in a homogeneous electron gas are calculated within the density-functional scheme as a function of the electron-gas density. The energy-versus-density curves and the induced densities of states are analyzed and discussed in terms of the interaction properties of an atom with its environment. The low-density limit of the immersion energy is related to the electron-atom scattering length. The results should prove useful in detailed investigations of the recently suggested "quasiatom" or "effective-medium" approaches to chemical binding. The lowest-order estimates of the binding energies of diatomic molecules and chemisorbed atoms are obtained. Peer re…
A Hybrid Virtual-Augmented Serious Game to Improve Driving Safety Awareness
2018
The use of 3D virtual content and Augmented Reality (AR) in certain applications allows designing tools and serious games that are more attractive to the potential users. Focusing on the area of learning and education, these technologies can be adapted to the requirements of the application that needs to be developed, to the available devices on which they are expected to run and also to the learning content. However, in most applications only a single interaction paradigm and a single visualization mode is used, restricting the potential benefits of the system. In this paper, we propose a software application designed to improve driving safety awareness and learning for both adults and chi…
Theatrical virtual acoustic rendering with head movement interaction
2019
AbstractNowadays, the use of virtual reality/virtual acoustics (VR/VA) in archaeology for rendering lost buildings is an important topic in the cultural heritage field. Moreover, the addition of additional senses apart from the sight increases the feeling of immersion in virtual environments. The aim of this paper is to show the interaction work developed in a VA system, based on Unity and FMOD, the graphical and acoustical reconstruction of an ancient building and the development of a VR goggles with headphones to render 3D audio and video interactively. This system has been implemented to render auralizations in a binaural system and has been applied to the renderization of an old and los…
The effects of a 10-week combined strength and endurance training intervention followed by cold water immersion or active recovery
2017
Combined strength and endurance training has been noted to produce significant improvements in strength and endurance performances of men. However, there seems to be moderate inhibitory effect regarding strength adaptations, especially considering power production. The effects of training have been well documented over the years yet very little has been investigated about recovery, even though athletes spend more of their time recovering than they do training. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of a 10-week combined strength and endurance training period on muscular performance and 3km time-trial in males with each training session followed by cold water immersion (CWI) or …
Virtual Reality in Education : Focus on the Role of Emotions and Physiological Reactivity
2019
Cognitive and emotional dimensions are often linked to each other in learning experiences. Moreover, emotions and engagement can lead to better outcomes at the cognitive level. Previous research has indicated that virtual reality (VR) provides a feeling of presence and immersion, which can trigger emotionally engaging learning situations. In this study, we explore the opportunities and challenges related to the use of VR in an educational context. The focus of this article is threefold: First, we explore interdisciplinary research literature related to the use of VR for educational purposes. Second, we introduce our VR pilot study in teacher education, applying three different kinds of VR a…
Vesiupotusmenetelmien vaikutus fyysisestä kuormituksesta palautumiseen miehillä
2017
Johdanto.
Linguistic and cultural identity : Finns who have been through English immersion education
2007
The aim of the study was to investigate the influence of English immersion education on the linguistic and cultural identities of Finns, with a view to understanding the interaction between English second language acquisition and identity. In-depth, semi- structured interviews were conducted with seven graduates from the English School in Helsinki, all of whom have Finnish parents and studied through English for most of their childhoods. The study addresses the question of whether acquiring and speaking English as children causes Finns to identify with non-Finnish linguistic and cultural communities, such as native English speaking communities. This is particularly relevant considering the …
