Doppler-broadening of gamma rays following muon capture: search for scalar coupling

2002

Abstract A precision measurement of the 277 keV γ ray produced by capturing muons in gaseous oxygen was performed using high-resolution HPGe detectors. The Doppler-broadened shape of this line is sensitive to the possible admixture into muon capture of genuine scalar interaction. This experiment complements, in the muon sector, in principle, similar ones undertaken recently in nuclear β decay. Using a procedure discussed in earlier papers, a fit to the experimental line-shape allowed us to obtain for the recoil–gamma correlation coefficient the value of a 1 2 =0.096±0.041 (95% CL). The available evaluations of the contributing nuclear matrix elements, performed in the impulse approximation …

Metacognition and emotion regulation as treatment targets in binge eating disorder: a network analysis study

2021

Abstract Background This study aims to examine the underlying associations between eating, affective and metacognitive symptoms in patients with binge eating disorder (BED) through network analysis (NA) in order to identify key variables that may be considered the target for psychotherapeutic interventions. Methods A total of 155 patients with BED completed measures of eating psychopathology, affective symptoms, emotion regulation and metacognition. A cross-sectional network was inferred by means of Gaussian Markov random field estimation using graphical LASSO and the extended Bayesian information criterion (EBIC-LASSO), and central symptoms of BED were identified by means of the strength c…

Self-discrepancy and impulse buying: an exploratory study

2008

Nowadays, consumer behavior is more sophisticated and complex than before. In this study, I attempt to analyze the relationship between impulse buying (consumerʼs emotional side of the consumption) and an individualʼs self-discrepancy (the difference between what one is and what one would like to be). I propose that a consumer uses impulse buying to lift oneʼs self up and remove oneʼs self-discrepancy. Results from a sample of consumers in Spain established that a consumer experienced self-discrepancy was likely to have impulse buying. Moreover, the larger the self discrepancy, the more one was dissatisfied with oneʼs consumption. Finally, symbolic meanings of products to the consumer were …

Impulse-based hybrid motion control

2017

The impulse-based discrete feedback control has been proposed in previous work for the second-order motion systems with damping uncertainties. The sate-dependent discrete impulse action takes place at zero crossing of one of both states, either relative position or velocity. In this paper, the proposed control method is extended to a general hybrid motion control form. We are using the paradigm of hybrid system modeling while explicitly specifying the state trajectories each time the continuous system state hits the guards that triggers impulsive control actions. The conditions for a stable convergence to zero equilibrium are derived in relation to the control parameters, while requiring on…

Intraluminal Doppler-sonography: a new device for data analysis and its in vitro test

2002

Summary form only given. A special data acquisition unit has been developed which allows to process on-line not only the mean-phasic Doppler shift signal but also to analyze the spectral contents and the received A-mode signal. The probe consists of a 3f-catheter which is activated by a pulsed transmitter-receiver (Millar). The carrier frequency is 20 MHz and the impulse repetition rate is 62.5 kHz. Two modular A/D converters are used. One digitizes directly the Doppler shift frequencies in the range less than 20 kHz (sampling rate 100 kHz, resolution 12 bit); the other digitizes the RF-signal (sampling rate 200 MHz, resolution 8 bit). For further processing, data are transferred via separa…

Symmetry breaking and singularity structure in Bose-Einstein condensates

2012

We determine the trajectories of vortex singularities that arise after a single vortex is broken by a discretely symmetric impulse in the context of Bose-Einstein condensates in a harmonic trap. The dynamics of these singularities are analyzed to determine the form of the imprinted motion. We find that the symmetry-breaking process introduces two effective forces: a repulsive harmonic force that causes the daughter trajectories to be ejected from the parent singularity, and a Magnus force that introduces a torque about the axis of symmetry. For the analytical non-interacting case we find that the parent singularity is reconstructed from the daughter singularities after one period of the tra…

A coupled channel calculation of the double-?(1 236) component of the deuteron

1975

TheΔΔ-component of the deuteron is calculated in a full coupled channel calculation including a diagonalΔ-Δ-interaction and compared to the impulse approximation. Without a diagonalΔ-Δ-interaction both methods give very similar results while inclusion of theΔ-Δ-interaction leads to a decrease of the (ΔΔ)-probability of about 25%. The main uncertainties originate from limited knowledge of coupling constants and cut-off ranges. Accordingly the (ΔΔ)-probability varies between 0.3 and 1 percent.

Asymmetric apodization in confocal scanning systems.

2008

A new class of superresolution pairs of pupil filters for three-dimensional, two-pupil confocal imaging is proposed. A distinctive feature of these filters is the asymmetry of their impulse response. For synthesizing the amplitude transmittance of such filters the Fourier transform properties of Hermitian functions are employed. It is shown that, with simple phase-only filters that belong to the class in question, either axial or unidirectional lateral superresolution is achieved.

Coherent and incoherent η-photoproduction from nuclei

1991

Abstract Elastic and inelastic η-photoproduction from complex nuclei is studied in a distorted-wave impulse approximation (DWIA) framework. The elementary operator is obtained by using a dynamical model which employs the reactions π N→ π N, π N→ ππ N and π − p→ η n to fix the hadronic vertex as well as the isobar propagators and the process γ N→ π N to constrain the electromagnetic vertex. The nuclear structure input for the inelastic transitions has been extracted from electron-scattering form factors. The η final-state interaction has been included via a simple optical potential using the ηN t -matrix as an input. We find that coherent η-production is dominated by the D 13 (1520) isobar w…

Chiral unitary approach to the K^- deuteron scattering length

2000

Starting from a recent model where the Kbar N amplitudes are evaluated from the chiral Lagrangians using a coupled channel unitary method, we evaluate here the scattering length for K^- deuteron scattering. We find that the double scattering contribution is very large compared to the impulse approximation and that the charge exchange contribution of this rescattering is as large as the sequential K^- scattering on the two nucleons. Higher order rescattering corrections are evaluated using coupled channels with K^- and Kbar^0 within the integral form of the fixed centre approximation to the Faddeev equations. The higher order corrections involving intermediate pions and hyperons are found ne…
