Menopausal symptoms and cardiometabolic risk factors in middle-aged women : A cross-sectional and longitudinal study with 4-year follow-up
2023
Objective To study associations of menopausal symptoms with cardiometabolic risk factors. Study design A cross-sectional and longitudinal study of a representative population sample of 1393 women aged 47–55 years with a sub-sample of 298 followed for four years. The numbers of vasomotor, psychological, somatic or pain, and urogenital menopausal symptoms were ascertained at baseline through self-report. Their associations with cardiometabolic risk factors were studied using linear regression and linear mixed-effect models. Models were adjusted for age, menopausal status, body mass index, the use of hormonal preparations, education, smoking, and alcohol consumption. Main outcome measures Card…
Muscle activity patterns and spinal shrinkage in office workers using a sit–stand workstation versus a sit workstation
2016
Reducing sitting time by means of sit–stand workstations is an emerging trend, but further evidence is needed regarding their health benefits. This cross-sectional study compared work time muscle activity patterns and spinal shrinkage between office workers (aged 24–62, 58.3% female) who used either a sit–stand workstation (Sit–Stand group, n = 10) or a traditional sit workstation (Sit group, n = 14) for at least the past three months. During one typical workday, muscle inactivity and activity from quadriceps and hamstrings were monitored using electromyography shorts, and spinal shrinkage was measured using stadiometry before and after the workday. Compared with the Sit group, the Sit–Stan…

2013
TIIVISTELMÄ Schildt, Kasimir Ario Vilhelm 2013. Stressi ja fyysinen aktiivisuus vuoden mittaisen neuvonta intervention aikana. Liikuntafysiologian Pro gradu -tutkielma. Liikuntabiologian laitos. Jyväskylän yliopisto. 83 sivua. Liikkumattomuus on luokiteltu maailman neljänneksi suurimmaksi kuolinsyyksi ja arviolta 3,2 miljoonaa ihmista kuolee vuosittain liikkumattomuudesta seuraaviin sairauksiin. Samaan aikaan ihmisten kokema stressi on lisääntynyt. Monissa aiemmissa tutkimuksissa fyysisen aktiivisuuden lisääminen on helpottanut stressiä. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoitus oli selvittää, ovatko fyysinen aktiivisuus ja inaktiivisuus yhteydessä koettuun ja sykevälivaihtelun avulla mitattuun stressiin…
