Arguments and counter-arguments in the debate to decriminalize some forms of incestuous relations in Poland

This study explores argumentation and counter-argumentation patterns emerging from a corpus of readers’ comments found below-the-line of over twenty-five online articles on the subject of incest, the current legal sanctions against it and the possibility to decriminalize consensual incestuous relations between adults in Poland. The comments have been coded line-byline for the types of positioning and argument premises using Atlas.ti software. This paper analyses the transformation of Aegisthus character in Seneca's Agamemnon. In this drama, the son of Thyestes, born by incest, becomes a type of corrupted avenger, whose heroic imperfection carries out the revenge on Agamemnon in the peculiar way of his father, that is to say by adultery and blood confusion. Les infractions sexuelles visant des personnes vulnérables soulèvent deux types de problème. D’abord, celle de l’appréhension du consentement à une relation sexuelle pour les personnes au-dessus de l’âge de la majorité sexuelle. Ensuite, celle de l’effet psychologique que de telles infractions peuvent avoir sur les victimes et qui justifient une modulation du régime de prescription.
