Anthropometric survey on children with Down syndrome
2017
Abstract Objective Study of anthropometric values in the medical records of a representative group of paediatric patients with Down syndrome, from the Down syndrome Unit of the Paediatric Department of Valencia's Hospital Clinico Universitario, from 2000 to 2014. Patients and methods Descriptive observational study in a group of 140 patients between 1 and 13 years. The group was configured based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. We extracted data about birth from their first visit, and subsequently patient data at the time of each visit (643 measurements). Results 103 patients with regular trisomy of Down syndrome were recorded and studied. There were 59 (57%) boys and 44 (43%) girls…
2018
The aim of the present study was to extend the previous intervention research in math by examining whether elementary school children with poor calculation fluency benefit from strategy training focusing on derived fact strategies and following an integrative framework, i.e., integrating factual, conceptual, and procedural arithmetic knowledge. It was also examined what kind of changes can be found in frequency of using different strategies. A quasi-experimental design was applied, and the study was carried out within the context of the school and its schedules and resources. Twenty schools in Finland volunteered to participate, and 1376 children were screened in for calculation fluency pro…
COMPARATIVE-STUDY ON INCLUSION-COMPOUNDS OF 4-BIPHENYLACETIC ACID WITH BETA-CYCLODEXTRIN, HYDROXYPROPYLATED-BETA-CYCLODEXTRINS, AND METHYLATED-BETA-C…
1994
AbstractThe inclusion behavior of Hydroxypropyl-β-Cyclodextrin (HP-β-Cyd) and of methylated-β-Cyclodextrins, heptakis-(2,6-di-O-methyl)-β-Cyclodextrin (DM-β-Cyd) and heptakis-(2,3,6-tri-O-methyl)-β-Cyclodextrin (TM-β-Cyd), in solution and solid state was compared with that of natural β-Cyclodextrin (β-Cyd) using an anti-inflammatory drug, 4-biphenylacetic acid (BPAA), as a guest molecule. The solubility of BPAA with β-Cyd and β-Cyd derivatives in aqueous solution were determined. Stability constants were calculated by phase solubility method at various pH values and temperatures. The formation of inclusion complexes with β-Cyd and β-Cyd derivatives in the solid slate were confirmed by infra…
Optical characterization of Mg-doped GaN films grown by metalorganic chemical vapor phase deposition
2000
Scanning electron microscopy, micro-Raman, and photoluminescence (PL) measurements are reported for Mg-doped GaN films grown on (0001) sapphire substrates by low-pressure metalorganic chemical vapor phase deposition. The surface morphology, structural, and optical properties of GaN samples with Mg concentrations ranging from 1019 to 1021 cm−3 have been studied. In the scanning micrographs large triangular pyramids are observed, probably due to stacking fault formation and three-dimensional growth. The density and size of these structures increase with the amount of magnesium incorporated in the samples. In the photoluminescence spectra, intense lines were found at 3.36 and 3.31 eV on the tr…
Teacher professional development in the context of the “Open Discovery of STEM laboratories” project: Is the MOOC methodology suitable for teaching p…
2020
Abstract The “Open Discovery of STEM Laboratories” (ODL) project, funded by the European Erasmus+ KA2 program, was aimed at introducing the use of MOOCs in school curricula. In particular, it fostered teacher collaboration in creating and using micro-MOOCs for the inclusion of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) online remote or virtual laboratories in the everyday teaching practice. The project focused on teachers, educators and curriculum designers with the aim to strengthen their profile by supporting them to deliver high quality teaching practices and to adopt new methods and tools. Thanks to the project, in service and pre-service teachers had the opportunity to ext…
The origin of the Ca–Ti–Cr–Fe–Ni isotopic anomalies in the inclusion EK-1-4-1 of the Allende meteorite
2003
The origin of the correlated Ca-Ti-Cr-Fe-Ni isotopic anomalies in the Ca-Al-rich inclusion of the EK-1-4-1 of the Allende is a longstanding puzzle. The search for a stellar environment which could explain the enrichment of neutron-rich stable Ca-...-Ni isotopes in a self-consistent way requires nuclear physics data far from stability. Recent experimental data have been obtained in the region of the shell closures N = 28 and N = 40, where the possible progenitors of these nuclei are found. Astrophysical network calculations have been updated by including the new beta-decay properties and microscopic predictions of neutron-capture cross sections. Interplay between nuclear structure far from s…
SuperK-Gd Physics Potential
2018
In this section, all the measurements and potential searches that SuperK-Gd would be able to performed, are addressed. This section takes into account all the advantages of the 80% efficiency neutron tagging technique using gadolinium, but also the drawbacks that the inclusion of radioactive contamination could have in these measurements.

‘I think I will need help’: A systematic review of who facilitates the recovery from gender‐based violence and how they do so
2020
Context A key to advancing the eradication of gender-based violence (GBV) is knowing how to recover from it. Objective To identify the changes that are indicators of having overcome GBV and determine the role of various support networks. Search strategy We systematically searched Web of Science. Inclusion criteria Publications whose abstracts contained a minimum of two of the following words: (a) support or network or solidarity, (b) violence and (c) recovery or healing. Data extraction and synthesis Of the 273 documents retrieved, 52 were used using a narrative synthesis approach. Main results For recovery, women must reconnect with themselves, with their environment and with the world in …
Excess free energy of nanoparticles in a polymer brush
2008
Abstract We present an efficient method for direct determination of the excess free energy Δ F of a nanoparticle inserted into a polymer brush. In contrast to Widom's insertion method, the present approach can be efficiently implemented by Monte Carlo or Molecular Dynamics methods also in a dense environment. In the present investigation the method is used to determine the free energy penalty Δ F ( R , D ) for placing a spherical particle with an arbitrary radius R at different positions D between the grafting plane and the brush surface. Deep inside the brush, or for dense brushes, one finds Δ F ∝ R 3 whereas for shallow nanoclusions Δ F ∝ R 2 , regardless of the particle interaction (…
