Synthetic individual binaural audio delivery by pinna image processing

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present a system for customized binaural audio delivery based on the extraction of relevant features from a 2-D representation of the listener’s pinna. Design/methodology/approach – The most significant pinna contours are extracted by means of multi-flash imaging, and they provide values for the parameters of a structural head-related transfer function (HRTF) model. The HRTF model spatializes a given sound file according to the listener’s head orientation, tracked by sensor-equipped headphones, with respect to the virtual sound source. Towards Disentangling the Contribution of Different Pathways for the Regulation of Cardiac Activity: A Pilot Study

Heartbeat is dynamically regulated through mediating routes associated with central and peripheral feedback mechanisms. Previous studies focused on the quantification of these mechanisms in the presence of a single stressor. In this pilot study we propose a model aimed to quantify the contribution of different heartbeat regulatory routes while multiple stressors are administrated to the subject. The model is tested with Heart rate Variability (HRV) series from 26 subjects undergoing physical and affective stressors. Estimating the Best Reference Homography for Planar Mosaics From Videos

This paper proposes a novel strategy to find the best reference homography in mosaics from video sequences. The reference homography globally minimizes the distortions induced on each image frame by the mosaic homography itself. This method is designed for planar mosaics on which a bad choice of the first reference image frame can lead to severe distortions after concatenating several successive homographies. In this paper we present an hypothesis test of randomness based on the probability density function of the symmetrized Kulback-Leibler distance estimated, via a Monte Carlo simulation, by the distributions of the interval lengths detected using the Multi-Layer Model (MLM). The $MLM$ is based on the generation of several sub-samples of an input signal; in particular a set of optimal cut-set thresholds are applied to the data to detect signal properties.
