Influence of Ad Congruence and Social Cues on the Probability of Choosing a Restaurant
2020
Abstract. Information processing of digital content includes conscious and un-conscious processes, memory, attitudes, and emotions and moods. Build up into the Heuristic‐Systematic Model, that states that persuasion can occur through a systematic or heuristic way, this research explores the effect of social media (SM) ratings and the ad content embedded in the SM website. Online ratings (part of the user-generated content (UGC) in SM platforms) are often heuristics cues. Subtle forms of congruence, such as the matching category between a restaurant advertiser and the third-party ad, as well as UGC, could have an impact on con-sumers’ attitudes towards the former. However, research on …
Implicit Interpersonal Attraction in Small Groups
2014
The present research investigated the nature and behavioral consequences of interpersonal attraction in small groups. In line with dual-process models of information processing, we studied the influence of implicit and explicit evaluations of interaction partners on actual friendly behavior in two social contexts. In two studies, 247 unacquainted same-sex participants ( N1 = 139; N2 = 108)—assigned to groups of four to six members—rated each other by completing a variant of the affective priming task to assess implicit interpersonal attraction and a self-report to measure explicit interpersonal attraction. Social relations analyses indicated that implicit and explicit interpersonal attract…
Widespread Decoding of Tactile Input Patterns Among Thalamic Neurons
2021
Whereas, there is data to support that cuneothalamic projections predominantly reach a topographically confined volume of the rat thalamus, the ventroposterior lateral (VPL) nucleus, recent findings show that cortical neurons that process tactile inputs are widely distributed across the neocortex. Since cortical neurons project back to the thalamus, the latter observation would suggest that thalamic neurons could contain information about tactile inputs, in principle regardless of where in the thalamus they are located. Here we use a previously introduced electrotactile interface for producing sets of highly reproducible tactile afferent spatiotemporal activation patterns from the tip of di…
The influence of institutions development in venture creation decision: A cognitive view
2016
Abstract This study seeks to provide new evidence on the way men and women process information in venture creation decision (VCD) and on the differences that may arise when taking this decision depending on the level of development of countries and their institutions. To reach this objective, this study carries out an experiment and identifies 120,536 people from 25 countries. Results indicate that institutions are necessary but not sufficient to achieve quality entrepreneurship, and that information processing is different between men and women, because women, regardless of the level of institutional development, process information similarly, whereas men do not.
Investigating the mechanisms of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular regulation in orthostatic syncope through an information decomposition strategy
2012
Some previous evidence suggests that postural related syncope is associated with defective mechanisms of cerebrovascular (CB) and cardiovascular (CV) control. We characterized the information processing in short-term CB regulation, from the variability of mean cerebral blood flow velocity (CBFV) and mean arterial pressure (AP), and in CV regulation, from the variability of heart period (HP) and systolic AP (SAP), in ten young subjects developing orthostatic syncope in response to prolonged head-up tilt testing. We exploited a novel information-theoretic approach that decomposes the information associated with a variability series into three amounts: the information stored in the series, the…
Framework for complex quantum state generation and coherent control based on on-chip frequency combs
2018
Integrated frequency combs introduce a scalable framework for the generation and manipulation of complex quantum states (including multi-photon and high-dimensional states), using only standard silicon chip and fiber telecommunications components.
Information as a determinant of a decision system
2018
The purpose of the article is to describe the considerations of measuring information in the aspect of making decisions. In the last two decades an "informational revolution" has been made that opens the era of computer tools supporting decision-making processes (Internet, mobile telephony). This relatively new information environment includes information, users and systems that enable information processing. In the information environment, the value and quality of information should be taken into account. An important place in the consideration of information is the measurement of information in the aspect of decision-making.
Cognitive Mimetics for Designing Intelligent Technologies
2018
Design mimetics is an important method of creation in technology design. Here, we review design mimetics as a plausible approach to address the problem of how to design generally intelligent technology. We argue that design mimetics can be conceptually divided into three levels based on the source of imitation. Biomimetics focuses on the structural similarities between systems in nature and technical solutions for solving design problems. In robotics, the sensory-motor systems of humans and animals are a source of design solutions. At the highest level, we introduce the concept of cognitive mimetics, in which the source for imitation is human information processing. We review and discuss so…
The WHAAM Application: a Tool to Support the Evidence-Based Practice in the Functional Behaviour Assessment
2018
BackgroundThe most recent computing technologies can promote the application of evidence-based practice (EBP) in the field of applied behaviour analysis (ABA).ObjectiveThe study describes how the use of technology can simplify the application of EBPs in ABA.MethodsThe Web Health Application for ADHD Monitoring (WHAAM) application demonstrates this in the following two case studies. We are monitoring dysfunctional behaviours, collecting behavioural data, performing systematic direct observations, creating both visual baseline and intervention charts and evaluating the planned interventions using the TAU-U statistical index.ResultsSignificant positive changes of children’s problem behaviours …
La opinión negativa del sí-mismo en los trastornos depresivos
2002
According to cognitive theory of depression (Beck, 1967, 1976), negatively biased information processing is responsible for maintenance, severity and duration of depressive affect. However, the evidence does not consistently support this assumption. The present study was designed to ascertain if depressed patients have access not only to negative information about the self, but also to positive one. Twenty patients with major depressive disorder, 18 with distimic disorder, and 20 nonpsychiatric controls completed a self-referent task. Instructions to perform the task were manipulated in order to fulfill it taking into account three different time-periods: present, past, and future. Data sho…
