Improving Energy Expenditure Estimation in Wrist-Worn Wearables by Augmenting Heart Rate Data With Heat Flux Measurement

Wearable electronics are often used for estimating the energy expenditure of the user based on heart rate measurement. While heart rate is a good predictor of calorie consumption at high intensities, it is less precise at low intensity levels, which translates into inaccurate results when estimating daily net energy expenditure. In this study, heart rate measurement was augmented with heat flux (HF) measurement, a form of direct calorimetry. Abstract The new concepts of the ‘covariance matrix normalization’ and the ‘cascade’ structure of the adaptive least-squares estimator are shown to generalize and extend the use of internal information feedback in various robustness/alertness-oriented modifications to the standard ALS estimation algorithm. A comparison between two feature selection algorithms

This article provides a comparison of two feature selection algorithms, Information Gain Thresholding and Koller and Sahami's algorithm in the context of text document classification on the Reuters Corpus Volume 1 dataset. The algorithms were evaluated by testing the performance of classifiers trained on the features they select from a given dataset. Results show that Koller and Sahami's algorithm consistently outperforms Information Gain Thresholding by capturing interactions between features and avoiding redundancy among features, although it achieves its gains through increased complexity and longer running time.
