Abnormal development of pacinian corpuscles in double trkB;trkC knockout mice.

2006

Pacinian corpuscles depend on either Aalpha or Abeta nerve fibers of the large- and intermediate-sized sensory neurons for the development and maintenance of the structural integrity. These neurons express TrkB and TrkC, two members of the family of signal transducing neurotrophin receptors, and mice lacking TrkB and TrkC lost specific neurons and the sensory corpuscles connected to them. The impact of single or double targeted mutations in trkB and trkC genes in the development of Pacinian corpuscles was investigated in 25-day-old mice using immunohistochemistry and ultrastructural techniques. Single mutations on trkB or trkC genes were without effect on the structure and S100 protein expr…

Our Definition of Propeller Flaps and Their Classification

2020

AbstractThe term propeller flap was introduced for the first time by Hyakusoku to define an island flap, based on a subcutaneous pedicle hub, that was rotated 90 degrees to correct scar contractures due to burns. With the popularization of perforator flaps, the propeller movement was applied for the first time to a skin island vascularized only by an isolated perforator, and the terms propeller and perforator flap were used together. Thereafter, the surgical technique of propeller flaps evolved and new applications developed. With the “Tokyo consensus,” we proposed a definition and a classification schema for propeller flaps. A propeller flap was defined as an “island flap that reaches the …

Intraoperative neural electrode for continuous monitoring of nerve function

2009

Nerve damage is still a major concern in all types of surgery and may result in permanent nerve injury. Real time nerve monitoring can reduce the risk of nerve lesions by continuous surveillance of nerve integrity. A stable proximal stimulation of the nerve and recording at the effector organ is essential and the electrodes should not significantly influence the surgical intervention.

Markedsføring av kosmetiske inngrep – en kvalitativ analyse

2021

Background Marketing cosmetic surgery is an under-researched topic in a Norwegian context, even though problematic aspects of such marketing have been pointed out in several contexts. This study draws attention to how providers of cosmetic surgery market their services, whom they target and how they do so. Material and method Critical discourse analysis was used as a framework for a qualitative study of the marketing activity of 36 private clinics. The data material was collected from the Internet and newspapers, and consists of text, still photos and video clips. Results and interpretation The article identifies the following marketing strategies: The providers refer to customers as patien…

Bedeutung der Kalkdepot-elimination bei Tendinosis calcarea der Schulter

2000

Aim: To evaluate the effect of complete elimination of the calcific deposit on the clinical outcome in patients with a recalcitrant calcifying tendinitis of the shoulder. Patients and methods: 50 patients with a chronic calcifying tendinitis of the shoulder (Type Gartner I or II) underwent a single application of extracorporeal shock waves (3000 impulses, energy flux density 0.60mj/ mm 2 ). After one year 45 patients were evaluated radiologically and clinically. Results: Radiologically a complete absorption of the calcific deposit was observed in 21 patients (47%). In 9 patients there was no radiological change. The radiological success was closely related to the radiomorphology of the depo…

Modeling the pelvic region for non-invasive pelvic intraoperative neuromonitoring

2016

Abstract Finite element analysis (FEA) of electric current distribution in the pelvis minor may help to assess the usability of non-invasive surface stimulation for continuous pelvic intraoperative neuromonitoring. FEA requires generation of quality volumetric tetrahedral mesh geometry. This study proposes the generation of a suitable mesh based on MRI data. The resulting volumetric mesh models the autonomous nerve structures at risk during total mesorectal excision. The model also contains the bone, cartilage, fat, skin, muscle tissues of the pelvic region, and a set of electrodes for surface stimulation. The model is ready for finite element analysis of the discrete Maxwell’s equations.

Efficacy of subcutaneous and sublingual immunotherapy with grass allergens for seasonal allergic rhinitis: a meta-analysis–based comparison

2012

Background: Subcutaneous (SCIT) and sublingual (SLIT) immunotherapy are the 2 most prescribed routes for administering allergen-specific immunotherapy. They were shown to be effective in control of symptoms and in reducing rescue medication use in patients with allergic diseases, but their effectiveness has to be balanced against side effects. In recent years, SLIT has been increasingly prescribed, instead of SCIT, because of improved safety and easy administration. Objective: We assessed which route is the most effective in the treatment of patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis to grass pollen. Methods: An indirect meta-analysis–based comparison between SCIT and SLIT was performed. Trea…
