‘The will to not be empowered (according to your rules)’: Resistance in Finnish participatory social policy

Participation has increasingly become a means and an end for successful and ‘empowering’ social policy. Building on previous governmentality critiques of participatory initiatives, this article investigates practices of resistance in the context of Finnish participatory social policy. I adopt a Foucauldian counter-conducts approach as my lens to study critical speech as a form of resistance in initiatives that invite marginalised people as ‘experts-by-experience’ in social welfare organisations. Measuring the Task Induced Oscillatory Brain Activity Using Tensor Decomposition

The characterization of dynamic electrophysiological brain activity, which form and dissolve in order to support ongoing cognitive function, is one of the most important goals in neuroscience. Here, we introduce a method with tensor decomposition for measuring the task-induced oscillations in the human brain using electroencephalography (EEG). The time frequency representation of source-reconstructed singletrail EEG data constructed a third-order tensor with three factors of time ∗ trails, frequency and source points. The aim of the present study was to analyze the growth and physiological performance of two coexisting species, Trifolium fragiferum, and Trifolium repens, under the effect of NaCl and rhizobial symbiosis. Seeds of T. fragiferum and T. repens were collected from populations in the wild, and plants were cultivated in an automated greenhouse, two plants per container. The photophysical and DNA-binding properties of the cationic zinc(II) complex of 5-triethylammonium methyl salicylidene ortho-phenylenediiminato (ZnL 2 + ) were investi- gated by a combination of experimental and theoretical methods. Tuning protein adsorption on graphene surfaces via laser-induced oxidation

An approach for controlled protein immobilization on laser-induced two-photon (2P) oxidation patterned graphene oxide (GO) surfaces is described. Selected proteins, horseradish peroxidase (HRP) and biotinylated bovine serum albumin (b-BSA) were successfully immobilized on oxidized graphene surfaces, via non-covalent interactions, by immersion of graphene-coated microchips in the protein solution. Band Jahn-Teller type structural instabilities of cubic Mn(2)YZ Heusler compounds causing tetragonal distortions can be predicted by ab initio band-structure calculations. This allows for identification of new Heusler materials with tunable magnetic and structural properties that can satisfy the demands for spintronic applications, such as in spin-transfer torque-based devices.

Acceptable or not? : split infinitives in American English

Tutkielmani tarkoitus on selvittää, kuinka usein englannin infinitiivirakenne jaetaan kahteen osaan laittamalla osien väliin adverbi (engl. split infinitive). Lisäksi tarkastelen, minkälaisia adverbeja esiintyy jaettujen infiniitivien kanssa ja onko adverbien laadussa tapahtunut muutoksia menneisyydestä nykypäivään. Tutkielman tavoitteena on siis vastata kysymyksiin: miten jaetun infinitiivin käyttö on vaihdellut vuosien 1810 ja 2009 välillä ja millaiset adverbit yleisimmin jakavat infinitiivejä. Saīsinājumu salikteņu lietojums rakstos par jaunuzņēmumiem

Mūsdienu uzņēmējdarbības vide pieprasa skaidru un precīzu valodu, tādēļ veiksmīgai komunikācijai ir būtiska nozīme uzņēmējdarbības panākumos un izaugsmē. Šī pētnieciskā darba mērķis ir izpētīt saīsinājumu lietošanu 40 rakstos par jaunuzņēmumiem un to izmantošanas iemesliem. Lai sasniegtu mērķi un atbildētu uz pētnieciskā darba jautājumiem, tika izmantota kvantitatīvā un kvalitatīvā pētnieciskā metode. Pētījuma rezultāti liecina, ka visbiežāk rakstos par jaunuzņēmumiem tiek izmantoti iniciālismi. Tika secināts, ka saīsinājumu salikteņu izmantošanas mērķis rakstos par jaunuzņēmumiem ir aizstāt garus nosaukumus un frāzes, samazināt lasīšanas laiku un ietaupīt vietu rakstos.

Šī pētnieciskā darba mērķis bija izpētīt saīsinājumu izmantošanu rakstos par jaunajiem uzņēmumiem. Turklāt pētījumā tika noteikti saīsinājumu veidi, kas parādās rakstos par jaunajiem uzņēmumiem, kā arī to izmantošanas iemesli. Lai sasniegtu mērķi un atbildētu uz pētnieciskā darba jautājumiem, tika izmantota kvantitatīvā un kvalitatīvā pētnieciskā metode.
