Kunnian hallitsema karoliinien sotilaskulttuuri Ruotsin valtakunnassa 1680-1740
2007
"Kunnian hallitsema karoliinien sotilaskulttuuri Ruotsin valtakunnassa 1680-1740" Lisensiaattityössäni tarkastelen suuren Pohjan sodan (1700-21)kokeneiden suomalaisten ja ruotsalaisten karoliinisotureiden maailmankuvaa ja sen vaikutusta heidän elämäänsä. Aikakauden ihmisistä erityisesti sotilaiden koko elämänkulku määrittyi vahvasti kunnian ja kunniallisuuden kautta. Ideaalien ja lähes universaalien soturihyveiden sävyttämä kunniakoodisto ja toisaalta karu sotilaan elämä muodostivat ristiriitaisen sotilaskulttuurin, jonka normien mukaisesti karoliinit elivät usein lyhyeksi jääneen elämänsä. Tutkimukseni selvittää, mistä asioista sotilaiden kunniakeskeinen maailmankuva koostui ja miten alitu…
Vīrieša tēla interpretācija Rūdolfa Blaumaņa novelēs
2015
Bakalaura darba “Vīrieša tēla interpretācija R. Blaumaņa novelēs” analizētas maskulīnās teorijas, noveles žanra attīstība un īpatnības, R. Blaumaņa literārās intereses un impulsi. Bakalaura darbā apkopotas maskulīnās teorijas, akcentējot tās nostādnes, kuras palīdz R. Blaumaņa radītā vīrieša tēla analīzē. Bakalaura darbā tiek noskaidrotas galvenās tendences vīrieša tēla atveidē R. Blaumaņa novelēs. Bakalaura darbā pētīta noveles žanra attīstība un īpatnības cauri gadsimtiem, akcentējot noveles attīstības tendences 19. gadsimta latviešu literatūrā. Bakalaura darbā sniegts ieskats R. Blaumaņa literārajās interesēs. Bakalaura darbā analizēts vīrieša tēls R. Blaumaņa novelēs, tā sociālais stāvo…

NH4HCO3–water solutions regeneration in RED closed loop applications
2017
Reverse Electrodialysis (RED) in closed loop arrangement (Reverse Electrodialysis Heat Engine - REDHE) is a promising technology to convert low-grade waste heat into electricity. RED is a membrane process exploiting the salinity gradient between a concentrated and a diluted solution to generate electrical current. Due to the transfer phenomena occurring in the RED unit, the two exiting solutions are partially mixed. Thermal regeneration processes can be used to restore the initial conditions of the two solutions, thus closing the loop. In this regard, ammonium hydrogen carbonate (NH4HCO3) salt solutions are suitable for such applications, being able to decompose at temperatures above 40-45 …
REVERSE ELECTRODIALYSIS FOR POWER PRODUCTION FROM OILFIELD WASTEWATERS
2022
Produced waters (PWs) are wastewaters generated by crude-oil extraction processes. They can present very different characteristics depending on the field location and production process. Dispersed oil, dissolved organics and solid particles are usually the main components. Moreover, PWs can contain a very high quantity of dissolved salts 1, with a total dissolved solid (TDS) concentration up to 300 g/L. Each barrel of extracted oil requires the simultaneous extraction of 3 barrels of produced water2 on average. PWs are often discharged into the sea, or sent in evaporation ponds thus leading to a dramatic environment impact3. Reinjection in the extraction well is currently the most common an…

Emergence and Disappearance of an Immune Molecule, an Antimicrobial Lectin, in Basal Metazoa
2003
Sponges (phylum Porifera) represent the evolutionarily oldest metazoans that comprise already a complex immune system and are related to the crown taxa of the protostomians and the deuterostomians. Here, we demonstrate the existence of a tachylectin-related protein in the demosponge Suberites domuncula, termed Suberites lectin. The MAPK pathway was activated in response to lipopolysaccharide treatment of the three-dimensional cell aggregates, the primmorphs; this process was abolished by the monosaccharide D-GlcNAc. The cDNA encoding the S. domuncula lectin was identified and cloned; it comprises 238 amino acids (26 kDa) in the open reading frame. The deduced protein has one potential trans…
An IPMSM torque/weight and torque/moment of inertia ratio optimization
2014
In this paper, a torque/weight and torque/moment of inertia ratio optimization procedure for interior permanent magnet syncronous motors (IPMSMs) is presented. More in detail, a performance comparison between several IPMSM rotor structures has been carried out in order to determine the optimum geometry that can maximize the torque/weight and torque/moment of inertia ratios. A commercial motor, with known electrical and mechanical characteristics, has been taken as reference. Its rotor structure has been modified several times, obtaining different rotor geometries and, therefore, many IPMSM models with different electrical and mechanical characteristics. The finite element method (FEM) analy…
Forming Sustainable Physical Activity Programs Among Young Elderly : A Combined ELM & UTAUT Approach
2021
There is consensus in health studies that regular physical activities of sufficient intensity and duration contribute to better health both in the short and long term. In an ongoing research program, we focus on getting the young elderly, the 60-75 years age group, to adopt and include physical activities as part of their daily routines. One reason for addressing young elderly is large numbers – in Finland health care costs for the elderly was 3.7 B€ in 2019 and will increase dramatically if the young elderly group is in bad shape when they reach the 75+ age group. We are finding out that systematic physical activities can serve as preventive health care for the young elderly. We are also l…
