Sviluppo locale e Community-University Partnership. Una sperimentazione nella Valle del Simeto

2015

Aligning Inner Peripheries with rural development in Italy: Territorial evidence to support policy contextualization

2021

Abstract Inner Peripheries is a recent concept based on both peripherality and marginality features, thus far from the commonly adopted geographical notion of periphery. Inner Peripheries are fragile territories covering rural Europe, which suffer from depopulation, low economic potential, and weak territorial cohesion. However, these territories are extremely important for the provision of goods and services, and the stewardship of natural and semi-natural environments. Such dichotomous condition poses several challenges for planning in the EU context, particularly regarding the implementation of the Rural Development Policy. Therefore, current planning needs to contextualize the policy im…

Can agents talk about what they are doing? A proposal with Jason and speech acts

2022

The dream of building robots and artificial agents that are more and more capable of thinking and acting like humans is growing by the day. Various models and architectures aim to mimic human behavior. In our current research, we propose a solution to make actions and thought cycles of agents explainable by introducing inner speech into a multi-agent system. The reasons that led us to use inner speech as a self-modeling engine raised the question of what inner speech is and how it affects cognitive systems. In this proposal, we used speech act to enable a coalition of agents to exhibit inner speech capabilities to explain their behavior, but also to guide and reinforce the creation of an in…

Covid-19: quando la distanza è spazio di relazione

2022

The third session of the INU 2020 conference “Post-pandemic Cities. The challenges of urban planning after the emergency” is dedicated to the new possible urban models that the pandemic led us to consider in the search for a difficult compromise between safety, sociability and a pleasant dwelling. Like a compass, the beauty guides us in achieving the social and environmental objectives that Covid-19 inexorably placed before our eyes: among these, the internal territories. Internal territories emerge as a field of experimentation of settlement structures in which wide landscape horizons prevail among the small compact villages. In 53% of Italian municipalities - equal to 60% of the national …

Anatomy of cochlea and round window

2010

One of the most important functions of the ear is sound recepction, particularly the detection of amplitude and frequency of the sound waves by Corti's organ. The latter is a sensory structure located in the cochlear duct (middle scale), consisting of hair cells lying above the basilar membrane. The cochlear duct is surrounded by two cavities containing perilymph: the scala vestibularis and the scala tympani. The sound reception mechanism involves several other components of the ear such as malleus, incus and stapes, in the tympanic cavity, and the oval and round windows. The movement of the stapes on the oval window, that is adjacent to the scala vestibularis, generates pressure waves in t…

THE INNER TERRITORIES: FROM THE MARGINS TO COSMOPOLITAN CENTRES

2021

The article proposes a reflection on the cosmopolitanism linked to the “marginalised” parts of Italy, where social, economic, and infrastructural decline and the consequent abandonment of places are met with stories of renewal in which the relationship between inhabitants and foreigners constitutes the basis for starting local development processes able to activate new urban networks based on cultural interaction and to generate resilient relations, welcoming processes, and new communities. In this new “cosmopolitan nomadism”, we can recognise an opportunity for territories and communities to regenerate spatial and social relations: innovation and culture, permanent exchange, and neutral en…

The shared project SMART REHABILITATION 3.0 for the EU architectural rehabilitation : examples of enhancement, preservation and intervention for trad…

2022

Sicilian Mountain municipalities and inland areas are the engine for the harmonious development of the entire region. Saving the cultural identity of these places, encouraging entrepreneurial activity, optimizing the network of services, especially in education and healthcare, is an act due to the new generations. This article wants to stimulate the creation of a strong constructive-cultural identity in resident citizenship and to hypothesis communication strategies which are useful for the enhancement of cultural resources and also of compatible technological & sustainable innovation. To this challenge is associated the shared creation - through the European Erasmus+ Project Smart Reha…

A Golgi study of the short-axon interneurons of the cell layer and inner plexiform layer of the medial cortex of the lizardPodarcis hispanica

1997

The medial cortex of lizards is a three-layered brain region displaying cyto- and chemoarchitectonical, connectional, and ontogenetic characteristics that relate it to the hippocampal fascia dentata of mammals. Three interneuron types located in the cell layer and ten others in the inner plexiform layer (six in the juxtasomatic zone and four in the deep zone) are described in this study. The granuloid neurons, web-axon neurons, and deep-fusiform neurons lay within the cell layer. These neurons were scarce; they were probably gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-, and parvalbumin-immunoreactive and presumably participated in feed forward as well as in feed back inhibition of the principal projecti…
