Legumes in 21st century Europe: present and future importance in agri-food systems? New challenges for reseach.
2013
Intensification of agriculture since 1950 has globally led to the decline of grain legume crops, which currently represent less than 3 % of arable crops in France and Europe. Nevertheless, legumes have several major assets (i) as plant proteins for animal feed and human food and (ii) as plants fixing atmospheric N2 and thereby saving nitrogen inputs in cropping systems, and (iii) as diversification crops. The analysis of forage and grain legume producing systems in France showed that the dominant system results in a lock-in of the different factors limiting legume insertion into the current systems. But legumes could have a major role to play in the agroecological transition towards more su…
The Role of Technical Services in Management of Innovation Activities at Ukrainian Agricultural Enterprises
2019
The ways of introducing innovations into production were found as a result of conducted research on innovative activity at agricultural enterprises in the Ukraine. By means of the developed schemes, the stages of selecting an innovative product were shown and the need to transform the decision-making system in agricultural production was justified. In order to improve the information flow system, it was found that the innovative activity of agricultural enterprises is influenced by the presence of innovation media and innovation-active staffing support of production. The low level of innovation activity of agricultural enterprises is due to the low level of scientific support of agricultura…
Inovācijas akadēmisko bibliotēku darbā
2019
Innovation by co-evolution in natural resource industries: The Norwegian experience
2011
Author's version of an article published in the journal: Geoforum. Also avaliable from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.geoforum.2011.01.008 Some resource-based economies become wealthy while others stay poor and Norway belongs to the first category. This paper argues that part of the answer to why Norway has managed to benefit from its rich natural resources is found in the formation of a well-functioning national innovation system. The paper integrates the innovation system approach with a historical approach through the concept of co-evolution. The empirical study investigates how innovation systems evolve in natural resource industries through analysing the co-evolution bet…
Quality management of research, development and innovation activities in Finnish universities of applied sciences
2018
This study utilises the quality audit reports of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences to describe the quality management of their research, development and innovation activities (RDI). The institutions are trying to find ways of enlarging the volume of RDI activities and this is clearly reflected in the ways in which they manage quality. Much of the focus lies on the project proposal preparation phase and strategic direction of resources, while less attention has been paid to monitoring and developing the quality of the output. These emphases are analysed in relation to Harvey & Green’s seminal notions on quality in an attempt to see how useful this theoretical framework is in explainin…
L’anfiteatro romano di Londinium
2011
The amphitheatre was an important b…
The implications of dynamic capacities vis-à-vis competitiveness and innovation in the 21st century
2013
The theoretical transition being apparent in the analysis of internal competitive advantage sources is being dealt with in this paper. A theoretical approach is being applied which is focused on those processes allowing companies to upkeep and enhance their competitiveness, become adapted to changes, and become able to foresee changes in the market. This survey shows the eclectic nature of dynamic capacities bringing in dynamic elements into static-nature theories, and further addresses the biases being apparent in these two approaches both in the theoretical setting and in the managerial practice. This survey also looks into the generation, development and change processes pertaining with …
Diversification de la production de l’aquaculture sicilienne à travers la production de filets de maigre (Argyrosmus regius) fumés: de la caractérisa…
2016
Within the Work-package 5 «Valorisation de l'image des produits aquacoles», activity 5.3 «Innovation en vue de valoriser les produits aquacoles», a cold smoking protocol was applied on meagre, Argyrosomus regius fillets, an emerging species for Sicilian aquaculture. Nutritional characterization and consumer tests were conducted on three different scales (laboratory, restaurant, seafood exhibition), in order to record the level of consumers’ satisfaction towards this new product. The results obtained indicate that the applied cold smoking protocol yielded a product with nutritional value comparable to fresh fillets. The low level of lipids and the high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids …

The sustainable white city
2020
The history of architecture and urban planning tells of white cities, whose chromatic characteristic derives from the use of local resources (stone, lime) and which unconsciously responded to principles of environmental sustainability. During the first half of the twentieth century, some European countries undertook economic and social policies aimed at the agricultural development of the territories and a consequent repopulation of the countryside. Especially in the south of Spain, numerous white-colored cities were founded. Global warming issues call into question the current organization of the city, which must renew itself and create comfortable and compatible living conditions with lon…
