Innovations in Corporate Governance and Performance Management
2018
In recent years, both corporate governance and performance management have been subject to significant forces for change: externally (as a reaction to changing regulatory requirements around the world) and internally (new managerial practices and initiatives inside enterprises). These emerging trends affect all enterprises from all sectors whether they are historically subject to formal external and government regulation (such as the financial services sector or healthcare), listing requirements (public companies and multinational companies) or informally structured family businesses and SMEs where wider groups of stakeholders are beginning to become active. For all enterprises changes in t…

How do different network positions affect crowd members' success in crowdsourcing challenges?
2023
In the crowdsourcing challenges, crowd members can interact with each other by, for example, chatting, exchanging feedback, providing advice, discussing, and commenting on ideas. These social interactions shape a network structure, which is a set of social relationships developed by crowd members. This study aims at investigating how occupying diverse network positions within a crowdsourcing challenge network increases the members' likelihood to succeed in a competition. Leveraging prior literature on social networks and crowdsourcing research, we theorize how central and structural hole network positions influence the crowd members' likelihood of winning crowdsourcing challenges by leverag…

Models and Streams of Data Journalism
2015
This paper presents the initial results of a two-year research project, the Data Journalism Work Practices, which focuses on newsrooms in Finland, UK and US. Data journalism or data-driven journalism has been defined simply as journalism based on large data sets (or big data) Rogers 2011; Bounegru et al. 2012). According to our ongoing research on data journalism work methods, we can claim this has been an oversimplification. In this paper we will argue that all the brief definitions of data journalism lack nuances, and the multiple layers that contemporary data journalism already consists of in newsrooms. Based on six interviews of leading Finnish, American and British data journalists we …
Innovations in regional development policy of the OECD and European
2010
In the seventies the policies of regional economic development in the OECD and in Europe were joined by the correction of economic (growth rates of GDP and income unbalanced) and technical differences and by inadequate allocations of human, financial, and infrastructural resources. Regional policies were based on the following points: a)Massive financial assistance (to develop infrastructures and public services) to the poorest regions; b)Creating artificial poles of economic development at regional level; c)Creation ex-nihilo of technology; d)Attempts to keep alive in declining industries to protect local employment. After twenty years of operations the results have been disastrous, and ma…
