2018

Over the last few years the concept of knowledge-based has acquired increasing acceptance, thus providing a new context in which knowledge may become a fundamental resource for innovation. To this end, the internationalization of academic activity is a fundamental tool for awareness in interaction in didactic and research methodology. This article presents a few thoughts regarding he teaching and research of the LabCity Architecture (DARCH-UNIPA group), on the theme of the transformation of the city of Busan, in South Korea, through the re-composition of disseminated parts of the city and the enhancement of the urban and natural heritage of the contemporary city.

Uutisia ranteessa? : älykellojen soveltuvuus journalismiin. Loppuraportti

2016

Suurin hyöty älykelloista on breaking news -uutistilanteissa, jolloin uut…

A sense of spacing: Toward a diffractive reading of organizational space

2022

This article explores how a diffractive methodology can enrich research on organizational space and the senses. Through the creation of interferences, a diffractive methodology directs attention to how differences in sensing are created in the ongoing production of space and what the effects of these are. By using examples from an ethnographic study of the Hub, a university-based entrepreneurship space designed to invoke positive “buzz”, the article illustrates how a diffractive methodology allows for the exploration of the sensory design of space and how it governs the possibilities of sensing among participants. The article contributes to organizational research by demonstrating how a di…

MIGLIORAMENTO TECNOLOGICO-PRESTAZIONALE DI UN COMPONENTE INNOVATIVO PER L’INVOLUCRO EDILIZIO - PERFOMANCE IMPROVEMENT OF AN INNOVATIVE BUILDING COMPO…

2016

Adopting sustainable irrigation technologies in Italy: a study on the determinants of inter- and intra-farm diffusion

2023

This paper analyses the drivers for adopting irrigation systems with water conservation and saving technologies (WCSTs) by Italian farmers. The agricultural sector in Italy, like in other Mediterranean countries, suffers from water scarcity and water endowment variability. Water resources play a decisive role in agricultural production and in implementing large-scale WCSTs capable of improving the resilience of the whole agricultural sector. This study uses a microeconomic panel data approach to estimate farmers' decisions in adopting (inter-farm) sustainable irrigation technologies and assesses the intensity of (intra-farm) water-saving practices. Our analysis identifies the main determina…

The impact of classes of innovators on Technology, Financial Fragility and Economic Growth

2011

In this paper, we study innovation processes and technological change in an agent-based model. By including a behavioral switching among heterogeneous innovative firms, which can endogenously change among three different classes (single innovators, collaborative innovators and imitators) on the base of their R&D expenditures, the model is able to replicate, via simulations, well known industrial dynamic and growth type stylized facts. Moreover, we focus the analysis on the impact of these three innovation categories on micro, meso and macro aggregates. We find that collaborative companies are those having the highest positive impact on the economic system. The model is then used to study th…

CREATIVITY, INNOVATION AND CHANGE IN KNOWLEDGE-BASED ORGANIZATION

2012

The innovative - creative potential of an organization is determined by the creative capacity of its members, by its managerial team competency and by certain mechanisms to sustain implementation of new ideas, as well as their transformation in competitive products and services. From the premise that knowledge-based modern organization is permanently connected to changes of business environment, the paper aims to underline the essential role of creativity and innovation in projecting and implementing organizational change programmes. Also, the paper presents possible directions of action recommended to nowadays organizations for the transition to knowledge-based organization stage.

Política tecnológica y agentes del sistema regional de innovación. Impacto del V PM de I+D de la UE en las regiones españolas

2008

In this paper we analyse the impact of the Fifth EU R&D Framework Programme (1998-2002) in the Spanish regions, considering the characteristics of the respective regional systems of innovation. The starting theoretical framework is the interactive pattern of technological change where the interaction among the different phases of innovation processes and between actors involved is emphasized. The important role that firms play in this process is also underlined. This model links with the concept of regional innovation systems. The contextual character of technological innovation is furthermore highlighted as well as its importance for the effectiveness of technology policies that should res…

Micro evidence for sources of innovation in European countries

2012

This paper investigates sources of product or process innovation, such as investments in research and development, machinery, personnel training and management systems, by examining microdata from eight European countries. We pay particular attention to the effect of research and development in favouring the absorption of new technologies, i.e. the absorptive capacity. Significant positive effects of each source on both product and process innovations are found. Significant evidence of positive absorptive capacity emerges only in firms with low predicted probabilities of introducing innovation.

Linking scientific and practical knowledge in innovation systems

2011

New research indicates that firms combining the science-based STI (Science, Technology, Innovation) and the experience-based DUI (Doing, Using, Interacting) modes of innovation are more efficient when it comes to improving innovation capacity and competitiveness. With regard to innovation policy, the STI mode calls for a supply driven policy, typically aimed to commercialise research results. The DUI mode suggests a demand driven policy approach, such as supporting the development of new products or services to specific markets. This paper analyses how the two types of innovation policy and the two innovation modes can be combined in regional innovation systems. The analysis builds on studi…
