General coordinates of the relationship between taxation and management
2015
Any modern state is unthinkable without an efficient taxation, without a fiscal field which is perceived as a stimulating factor in the development of the nation. Taking into account that fiscal science has always had a negative perception among taxpayers, through this article we present some aspects of management methods and management techniques that can give essential elements for improving taxation. Using management as art, science and state of mind can strengthen the role that taxation plays in the regulation of economic mechanisms.

Extending the Limits of Nature. Political Animals, Artefacts, and Social Institutions
2020
This essay discusses how medieval authors from the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries dealt with a philosophical problem that social institutions pose for the Aristotelian dichotomy between natural and artificial entities. It is argued that marriage, political community, and language provided a particular challenge for the conception that things which are designed by human beings are artefacts. Medieval philosophers based their arguments for the naturalness of social institutions on the anthropological view that human beings are political animals by nature, but this strategy required rethinking the borderline between nature and art. The limits of nature were extended, as social institution…
Indo-French educational partnerships: Institutions, Technologies and Higher Education
2016
International audience; Chapter 1 Why France and India? The Convergence Hypothesis The cross-fertilization of insights derived from French and Indian intellectual History, with, on the one hand, the Age of Enlightment in Western Europe in the 18th century, bringing forward an autonomous position for knowledge in human societies, and, on the other hand, the visionary prediction made by Radhakrishnan (1911, 1933, 1936) that India’s future would be built in her classrooms, have ignited an innovative pluridisciplinary reflection on the role played by these two countries in the fabric of the knowledge-based economy in the twenty-first century (Pilkington and Nair, 2013, p.2). Pilkington and Nair…
Secular rise in economically valuable personality traits
2017
Although trends in many physical characteristics and cognitive capabilities of modern humans are well-documented, less is known about how personality traits have evolved over time. We analyze data from a standardized personality test administered to 79% of Finnish men born between 1962 and 1976 (n = 419,523) and find steady increases in personality traits that predict higher income in later life. The magnitudes of these trends are similar to the simultaneous increase in cognitive abilities, at 0.2-0.6 SD during the 15-y window. When anchored to earnings, the change in personality traits amounts to a 12% increase. Both personality and cognitive ability have consistent associations with famil…
Diversity – a Challenge for Educators
2006
The challenge for most European countries is to educate second generation immigrants in particular in order to fulfill their parents’ dreams, but above all, to create a situation where students have hope of finding meaningful life in serving their new country in different workplaces. Effective education is a vital source of personal opportunity as well as means to support the economic development of young people in any society. Diversity must be viewed as a valuable learning source for all students in any classroom. In working and doing things together, students can develop a sense of respect for, and tolerance towards, different cultural and ethnic groups in our societies. Only through int…

This chapter first presents an overview of the complex language policy contexts of the internationalising universities. After briefly observing the geographical and disciplinary contexts in the volume, the discussion moves on to the chapters’ contribution to ROAD-MAPPING and the ways in which the chapter authors discuss the benefits and drawbacks of the framework. The coda closes with a suggestion on how the framework could be used differently. For that, …
