Integrated Generation of High-dimensional Entangled Photon States and Their Coherent Control
2017
Exploiting a frequency-domain approach, we demonstrate the generation of high-dimensional entangled quantum states with a Hilbert-space dimensionality larger than 100 from an on-chip nonlinear microcavity, and introduce a coherent control platform using standard telecommunications components.
The CZT X-ray imager on AXO
2001
DSRI has initiated a development program of CZT X-ray and gamma ray detectors employing strip readout techniques. A dramatic improvement of the energy response was found operating the detectors as so-called drift detectors. For the electronic readout, modern ASIC chips were investigated. Modular design and the low power electronics will make large area detectors using the drift strip method feasible. The performance of a prototype CZT system will be presented and discussed. One such detector system has been proposed for future space missions: The X-Ray Imager (XRI) on the Atmospheric X-ray Observatory (AXO), which is a mission proposed to the Danish Small Satellite Program and is dedicated …
Fast SWAP gate by adiabatic passage
2005
We present a process for the construction of a SWAP gate which does not require a composition of elementary gates from a universal set. We propose to employ direct techniques adapted to the preparation of this specific gate. The mechanism, based on adiabatic passage, constitutes a decoherence-free method in the sense that spontaneous emission and cavity damping are avoided.
Quantum Nondemolition Gate Operations and Measurements in Real Time on Fluctuating Signals
2017
We demonstrate an optical quantum nondemolition (QND) interaction gate with a bandwidth of about 100 MHz. Employing this gate, we are able to perform QND measurements in real time on randomly fluctuating signals. Our QND gate relies on linear optics and offline-prepared squeezed states. In contrast to previous demonstrations on narrow sideband modes, our gate is compatible with quantum states temporally localized in a wave-packet mode including non-Gaussian quantum states. This is the cornerstone of realizing quantum error correction and universal gate operations.
Photonically assisted RF generator with incoherent sources
2008
An RF waveform generator operating with incoherent broadband light is successfully implemented. Complex RF ~10 GHz bandwidth waveforms are generated by means of incoherent wavelength-to-time mapping. Our technique can be scaled to the mm-wave range.

Full Wave Solution for Intel CPU With a Heat Sink for EMC Investigations
2010
A CPU with a heat sink (e.g. Intel Pentium 4 and Intel Pentium dual core) is a challenging problem for EMC analysis. A Very Large Scale Integrated (VLSI) device was modelled using the Finite Element Method (FEM) frequency domain solver to obtain a 3D full wave solution. The electromagnetic (EM) radiation emitted from these high power microelectronic circuits connected to a heat sink was found to have resonant frequencies around 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz with reflection coefficients less than -19 dB and -8 dB respectively. These resonant frequencies are very close to the operating frequency of both IEEE and Bluetooth wireless communication systems. This paper proposes a new benchmark model based on …
Experimental demonstration of Bloch mode parity change in photonic crystal waveguide
2004
We experimentally show coupling between two photonic crystal waveguide Bloch modes having a different parity. A monomode ridge waveguide etched in a silicon-on-insulator substrate and connecting to the photonic crystal waveguide allows us to excite the even Bloch mode. Transmission measurements, performed on a broad spectral range, show the even mode propagation along the defect line. Then, spectrally resolved near-field patterns obtained by using a scanning near-field optical microscope in collection mode for wavelengths, inside and outside the multimode region of the photonic crystal waveguide, clearly demonstrate coupling phenomenon between even and odd modes.
Evaluation of performance of a hybrid electro-optic directional coupler and a Mach–Zehnder switch
2017
The efficiency of an electro-optic (EO) directional coupler (DC) and a Mach–Zehnder (MZ) switch is discussed. The specific designs employ a passive waveguide core and an EO cladding. The performance of a DC switch was evaluated by numerical methods, namely coupled mode theory (CMT), eigenmode expansion (EME) method, and beam envelope method. Using the CMT and EME methods, it is shown that in the DC with a passive waveguide core and EO cladding at certain waveguide parameters the switching effect does not take place. The effect is demonstrated for the first time and suggests that careful optimization of the DC switch should be done before experimental realization of the device. The efficienc…
Synchronized photonic modulators driven by surface acoustic waves
2013
Photonic modulators are one of the most important elements of integrated photonics. We have designed, fabricated, and characterized a tunable photonic modulator consisting of two 180 degrees-dephased output waveguide channels, driven by a surface acoustic wave in the GHz frequency range built on (Al,Ga)As. Odd multiples of the fundamental driven frequency are enabled by adjusting the applied acoustic power. A good agreement between theory and experimental results is achieved. The device can be used as a building block for more complex integrated functionalities and can be implemented in several material platforms. (C) 2013 Optical Society of America
