Preliminary methodological experiment: unconstrained ordination of wing band areas: Explanation note: Principal component analysis (PCA) showing morphometric differences in wing band areas of 14 Ceratitis rosa specimens across sexes, wings (LW: left wing, RW: right wing), repeated images of the same wing (1, 2), repeated measures of the same image (A, B).

La teoria della vergogna reintegrativa di Braithwaite
2021
Reflection on the theory developed by John Braithwaite known as the theory of reintegrative shaming which represents the example general integrated theory (which therefore addresses several criminal conducts) and of the "side-by-side" type (side-by -side).
Building on 150 Years of Knowledge : The Freshwater Isopod Asellus aquaticus as an Integrative Eco-Evolutionary Model System
2021
Interactions between organisms and their environments are central to how biological diversity arises and how natural populations and ecosystems respond to environmental change. These interactions involve processes by which phenotypes are affected by or respond to external conditions (e.g., via phenotypic plasticity or natural selection) as well as processes by which organisms reciprocally interact with the environment (e.g., via eco-evolutionary feedbacks). Organism-environment interactions can be highly dynamic and operate on different hierarchical levels, from genes and phenotypes to populations, communities, and ecosystems. Therefore, the study of organism-environment interactions requir…
”I’ll get a scooter if my grades go up” : What motivates Finnish pupils to study English
2009
Yleisesti tiedostetaan motivaation merkitys kielenoppimisessa. Motivaatio onkin yksi tutkituimmista alueista vieraiden kielten oppimisessa ja opettamisessa. Motivaation rakenne ja syyt vaihtelevat suuresti riippuen kontekstista; eri paikoissa eri aikoina suoritetut tutkimukset antavat hyvin erilaisia tuloksia. Siksi motivaatiota on tärkeätä tutkia jatkuvasti. Sen lisäksi halusimme antaa oppilaille mahdollisuuden kertoa omin sanoin, millaisten asioiden he koke…
Widespread Decoding of Tactile Input Patterns Among Thalamic Neurons
2021
Whereas, there is data to support that cuneothalamic projections predominantly reach a topographically confined volume of the rat thalamus, the ventroposterior lateral (VPL) nucleus, recent findings show that cortical neurons that process tactile inputs are widely distributed across the neocortex. Since cortical neurons project back to the thalamus, the latter observation would suggest that thalamic neurons could contain information about tactile inputs, in principle regardless of where in the thalamus they are located. Here we use a previously introduced electrotactile interface for producing sets of highly reproducible tactile afferent spatiotemporal activation patterns from the tip of di…

Nykykoulussa on edessä muutoksia, kun perusopetuksen uusi opetussuunnitelma otetaan käyttöön vuoden 2016 syksystä eteenpäin. Uusi opetussuunnitelma painottaa eheyttämistä ja monialaisia oppimiskokonaisuuksia enemmän edelliseen opetussuunnitelmaan verrattuna. Käytännössä kaikkien koulujen velvoitteena on siis tarjota oppilaille integroivia ja monialaisia oppimiskokonaisuuksia opetuksessaan (Norrena 2015: 25, Perusopetuksen opetussuunnitelman perusteet 2014). Näin ollen opettajat alkavat suunnitella ja muodostaa uudenlaisia yhteyksiä aineiden välille, joten on mielenkiintoista nähdä, minkälaisia kokonaisuuksia ja minkä aineiden kesken yhteistyötä tulee tapahtumaan. Tämän tutkielman tarkoituks…
Expanding Acutuncus : Phylogenetics and morphological analyses reveal a considerably wider distribution for this tardigrade genus
2023
The tardigrade genus Acutuncus has been long thought to be an Antarctic endemism, well adapted to this harsh environment. The Antarctic endemicity of Acutuncus was recently dispelled with the description of Acutuncus mariae Zawierucha, 2020 found in the Svalbard archipelago. The integrated analyses on two newly found Acutuncus populations from UK and Italy, and a population of Acutuncus antarcticus found close to its type locality allowed us to expand the climatic and geographic range of the genus Acutuncus. These findings also allowed us to re-evaluate the morphological diagnoses of Acutuncus and accommodate it in the newly proposed monotypic family Acutuncidae fam. nov. Two new Acutuncus …
