An Approach to Data Quality Evaluation
2018
This research proposes a new approach to data quality evaluation comprising 3 aspects: (1) data object definition, which quality will be analyzed, (2) quality requirements specification for the data object using Domain Specific Language (DSL), (3) implementation of an executable data quality model that would enable scanning of data object and detect its shortages. Like the Model Driven Architecture (MDA) the data quality modelling is divided into platform independent (PIM) and platform-specific (PSM) models. PIM comprises informal specifications of data quality, PSM describes implementation of data quality model, thus making the data quality model executable. The approbation of the proposed…
Protein kinase C controls activation of the DNA integrity checkpoint
2014
The protein kinase C (PKC) superfamily plays key regulatory roles in numerous cellular processes. Saccharomyces cerevisiae contains a single PKC, Pkc1, whose main function is cell wall integrity maintenance. In this work, we connect the Pkc1 protein to the maintenance of genome integrity in response to genotoxic stresses. Pkc1 and its kinase activity are necessary for the phosphorylation of checkpoint kinase Rad53, histone H2A and Xrs2 protein after deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) damage, indicating that Pkc1 is required for activation of checkpoint kinases Mec1 and Tel1. Furthermore, Pkc1 electrophoretic mobility is delayed after inducing DNA damage, which reflects that Pkc1 is post-translatio…
Efficient and Lightweight Data Integrity Check in In-Networking Storage Wireless Sensor Networks
2009
In In-networking storage Wireless Sensor Networks, sensed data are stored locally for a long term and retrieved on-demand instead of real-time. To maximize data survival, the sensed data are normally distributively stored at multiple nearby nodes. It arises a problem that how to check and grantee data integrity of distributed data storage in the context of resource constraints. In this paper, a technique called Two Granularity Linear Code (TGLC) that consists of Intra-codes and Inter-codes is presented. An efficient and lightweight data integrity check scheme based on TGLC is proposed. Data integrity can be checked by any one who holds short Inter-codes, and the checking credentials is shor…
Ethics appraisal procedure in 79,670 Marie Skłodowska-Curie proposals from the entire European HORIZON 2020 research and innovation program (2014–202…
2021
Introduction Horizon 2020 was the most significant EU Research and Innovation programme ever implemented and included the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA). Proposals submitted to the MSCA actions awere subject to the Ethics Appraisal Procedure. In this work we explored the ethics appraisal procedure in MSCA H2020. Methods Using a retrospective analysis of pooled anonymized data, we explored the ethics appraisal procedure on proposals submitted to Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) during the entire Horizon 2020 program period (N = 79,670). Results Our results showed that one of the most frequently identified ethics categories was Data protection. We also detected slight differences…
Effects of the Best Possible Self intervention: A systematic review and meta-analysis
2019
The Best Possible Self (BPS) exercise promotes a positive view of oneself in the best possible future, after working hard towards it. Since the first work that attempted to examine the benefits of this intervention in 2001, studies on the BPS have grown exponentially and, currently, this is one of the most widely used Positive Psychology Interventions. However, little is yet known about its overall effectiveness in increasing wellbeing outcomes. Thus, the aim of this meta-analysis is to shed light on this question. A systematic literature search was conducted, and 29 studies (in 26 articles) met the inclusion criteria of empirically testing the intervention and comparing it to a control con…
2020
There is abundant empirical evidence which shows that corporate corruption is not so much the result of episodic events or favorable occasions, exploited by inveterate criminal minds or people of doubtful morality, but the result of widespread behavior that reflects substantial institutional weaknesses. This article, therefore, aims to clarify the individual, social and institutional processes that generate systemic corruption within public and private organizations. To this end, some reflections on the concept of corruption are also made. The reasons why organizations have a certain propensity for corruption are explained below. In the central part of the text, the organizational processes…
Whistle-blowing and Education Management
2016
Contemporary management studies usually concern positive and desir- able solutions that increase the organizational effectiveness and perfor- mance. That is why graduates of higher business schools, equipped with idealistic views on business environment, need to face the dark side of business practice without the appropriate preparation. Their unawareness of the risk associated with management misconduct results in corrupt scandals, erosion of public trust to their organizations, or even the collapse of profitable corporations. Underestimation of unethical behaviors may lead to severe consequences. The last decade, in fact, has been abundant in numerous examples of corruption scandals in mo…

A study of the human rod and cone electroretinogram a-wave component
2009
The study of the electrical response of the retina to a luminous stimulus is one of the main fields of research in ocular electrophysiology. The features of the first component (a-wave) of the retinal response reflect the functional integrity of the two populations of photoreceptors: rods and cones. We fit the a-wave for pathological subjects with functions that account for possible mechanisms governing the kinetics of the photoreceptors. The paper extends a previous analysis, carried out for normal subjects, in which both populations are active, to patients affected by two particular diseases that reduce the working populations to only one. The pathologies investigated are Achromatopsia, a…
