Arsenic exposure, diabetes-related genes and diabetes prevalence in a general population from Spain

2019

Inorganic arsenic exposure may be associated with diabetes, but the evidence at low-moderate levels is not sufficient. Polymorphisms in diabetes-related genes have been involved in diabetes risk. We evaluated the association of inorganic arsenic exposure on diabetes in the Hortega Study, a representative sample of a general population from Valladolid, Spain. Total urine arsenic was measured in 1451 adults. Urine arsenic speciation was available in 295 randomly selected participants. To account for the confounding introduced by non-toxic seafood arsenicals, we designed a multiple imputation model to predict the missing arsenobetaine levels. The prevalence of diabetes was 8.3%. The geometric …

Friedel-Crafts catalytic alkylations using rare earth-based mineral supports

1998

Abstract Rare earth halides supported on mineral supports (K10 montmorillonite and silica) were investigated as catalysts for Friedel-Crafts alkylations. This project concerns the replacement of the widely used Lewis acid AlCl3 in Friedel-Crafts reactions by environmentally friendly catalysts in that they circumvent the production of aluminum waste. The catalytic activity of these heterogeneous catalysts was established in a series of alkylations of aromatic compounds.

Additional file 5: of Characterization of disease-specific cellular abundance profiles of chronic inflammatory skin conditions from deconvolution of …

2019

Figure S2. Variation in relative abundance of skin related cell types across independent datasets. The relative fraction of 13 different cell types in the skin was derived from nine independent datasets. These datasets comprised samples of healthy skin and skin from patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) and psoriasis (PS). The disease samples accounted for lesional (L) and non-lesional skin (NL). The standard deviation is derived for each data point in the panels of this figure. (PDF 461 kb)

Effect of weather conditions on somatic cell score in Sicilian Valle del Belice ewes

2010

Mastitis susceptibility of Valle del Belice ewes from the south of Sicily to temperature, humidity, precipitation, solar radiation, sun hours, air pressure, wind-speed and wind-direction measured by a public weather station was investigated using 65,848 test-day somatic cell score (SCS) records of 5,237 ewes. All weather parameters had an effect on SCS in a regression approach. Extreme values of maximum and minimum temperaturehumidity indices resulted in increased SCS. Higher precipitation, solar radiation and sun hours resulted in increased SCS, whereas higher air pressure and wind speed resulted in reduced SCS.

Distribution of calcitonin gene-related peptide-like immunoreactivity in the brain of the lizardPodarcis hispanica

2002

The present work studies the distribution of calcitonin gene-related peptide-immunoreactive (CGRP-li) neurons and fibers in the brain of a reptile, the lizard Podarcis hispanica. CGRP-li perikarya were not present in the telencephalon. In the thalamus, CGRP-li perikarya were restricted to the posteromedial and posterolateral nuclei. In the hypothalamus, CGRP-li cells were found mainly in the supramammillary and mammillary nuclei. In the midbrain and brainstem, CGRP-li cells appeared in the ventral tegmental area, the parabrachial nucleus, and the motor nuclei of the III-VII, IX, X, and XII cranial nerves. Motoneurons of the ventral horn of the spinal cord were also immunoreactive for CGRP. …

Wafer-scale pulsed laser deposition of ITO for solar cells: reduced damage vs. interfacial resistance

2022

Transparent conducting oxides (TCOs) used in solar cells must be optimized to achieve minimum parasitic absorption losses while providing sufficient lateral conductivity. Low contact resistance with the adjacent device layers and low damage to the substrate during deposition of the TCO are also important requirements to ensure high solar cell efficiencies. Pulsed laser deposition (PLD) has been proposed as an alternative low-damage TCO deposition technique on top of sensitive layers and interfaces in organic and perovskite solar cells but is yet to be studied for the more mature silicon technology. Focusing on the PLD deposition pressure as the key parameter to reduce damage, we developed t…

In Vitro and In Vivo Regulation of SRD5A mRNA Expression of Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Extract from Asparagus racemosus Willd. Root as Anti-Sebum a…

2022

Oily skin from overactive sebaceous glands affects self-confidence and personality. There is report of an association between steroid 5-alpha reductase gene (SRD5A) expression and facial sebum production. There is no study of the effect of Asparagus racemosus Willd. root extract on the regulation of SRD5A mRNA expression and anti-sebum efficacy. This study extracted A. racemosus using the supercritical carbon dioxide fluid technique with ethanol and investigated its biological compounds and activities. The A. racemosus root extract had a high content of polyphenolic compounds, including quercetin, naringenin, and p-coumaric acid, and DPPH scavenging activity comparable to that of the standa…

Synthese mehrerer polymerhomologer reihen von diol-oligo-urethanen. Synthese von makromolekeln einheitlicher größe. V. Mitt.

1961

Several homologous polymeric series of diol-oligo-urethanes are prepared by the method of duplication and by synthesis step by step. The application of these methods is discussed thoroughly. The diol-oligo-urethanes are characterized by end-group analysis.
