The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential value of i.v. gadolinium-diethylenetriamine penta-acetic acid (Gd-DTPA) applied before MRI-guided laser-induced interstitial thermotherapy (LITT) of brain tumors without original enhancement, especially in defining total lesion size during therapy. MRI-guided LITT was performed on two patients with astrocytoma WHO II. For both patients, Gd-DTPA was administered intravenously after a first irradiation period and LITT was continued after pulling back the light guide to coagulate the upper parts of the tumor. To investigate the potential of three-dimensional time-of-flight MR angiography (MRA) to complement SE imaging, 18 patients with intracerebral arteriovenous malformations were prospectively followed after undergoing radiosurgery. Vessel occlusion after stereotaxic single high dose radiotherapy develops slowly. The MRA detected signs of nidus obliteration earlier and with a higher sensitivity than did SE imaging. Six months after radiosurgery, MRA showed a reduction of the nidus flow signals in nine patients and after 1 year it showed reduction in 15 of the 18 patients. Abstract It is well documented that increasing effort during exercise is characterized by an increase in electromyographic activity of the relevant muscles. How aging influences this relationship is a matter of great interest. In the present study, nine young and 24 elderly subjects did repetitive hopping with maximal effort as well as with 50%, 65%, 75% and 90% intensities.
