Abstract The increasing demand from the colloid research community for quick and noninvasive experimental techniques as well as the rapid progress of modern optics and electronics have led to a considerable expansion in the field of light scattering. This review introduces the basic concepts with some emphasis on novel approaches like the study of interacting particle systems, multiple scattering techniques, and non ergodic samples. Particular attention is then devoted to recent experimental progress towards more compact and rugged instruments.

Brain-computer interface (BCI) has been emerging as an assessment tool for patients with disorder of consciousness (DOC). With the advantages of high time resolution, low cost and portable design, EEG based BCI systems are especially suitable for bedside measurement. Recent studies showed the successful application of an EEG based BCI on DOC assessment and communication. However, the effect of repeated BCI measurement on this patient group is not clear. In this study, a tactile BCI paradigm was repeated 12 runs for 10 consecutive days on 5 DOC patients. Preparation and characterisation of Ce:YAG -polycarbonate composites for white LED

Ce:YAG-polycarbonate composites were prepared with several amounts of Ce:YAG in the range 0.1-5 wt.% by using melt compounding. The structure and morphology of the composites were investigated by means of X-ray diffractometry and transmission electron microscopy. The optical properties of the composites were studied by using photoluminescence spectroscopy. The intermolecular interaction between the polymer and the filler surface was investigated using 13C cross-polarization magic-angle spinning NMR spectroscopy (13C {1H} CP-MAS NMR). The present article proposes a formulation for a cohesive interface element in large displacement conditions. Theoretical and computational aspects, useful for an effective and efficient finite element implementation, are examined in details.
