Photocatalytic coalescence of functionalized gold nanoparticles.

A novel strategy for the synthesis of chromophore-functionalized AuNPs with a narrow size distribution is reported. It consists of increasing the size of preprepared NPs by means of a fast (second scale) and clean (light and an organic photocatalyst) method. The results agree with thiolate ligand liberation from the NP surface promoted by photogenerated radicals. This lets gold cores come together and finally coalesce.
EFFECT OF SURFACTANT AND SUBSTRATE TEMPERATURE ON THE GROWTH OF Ag FILMS ON A SAPPHIRE SURFACE

The possibility of modification of the thin film growth on an insulating (sapphire) substrate by using a Ga monolayer as a "surfactant" was studied. We found that the films grown in this way are electrically conducting and can emit photoelectrons at much lower thickness than those deposited on a pure substrate. The surfactant stabilizes the positions of Ag atoms on the substrate surface and inhibits the coalescence of small nuclei into bigger islands, even when the film is annealed to 450 K. This fact may be very important for thin metal film technology.

Abstract The increasing demand from the colloid research community for quick and noninvasive experimental techniques as well as the rapid progress of modern optics and electronics have led to a considerable expansion in the field of light scattering. This review introduces the basic concepts with some emphasis on novel approaches like the study of interacting particle systems, multiple scattering techniques, and non ergodic samples. Particular attention is then devoted to recent experimental progress towards more compact and rugged instruments.

Preparation and characterisation of Ce:YAG -polycarbonate composites for white LED

Ce:YAG-polycarbonate composites were prepared with several amounts of Ce:YAG in the range 0.1-5 wt.% by using melt compounding. The structure and morphology of the composites were investigated by means of X-ray diffractometry and transmission electron microscopy. The optical properties of the composites were studied by using photoluminescence spectroscopy. The intermolecular interaction between the polymer and the filler surface was investigated using 13C cross-polarization magic-angle spinning NMR spectroscopy (13C {1H} CP-MAS NMR). The present article proposes a formulation for a cohesive interface element in large displacement conditions. Theoretical and computational aspects, useful for an effective and efficient finite element implementation, are examined in details. A six-node (or higher) isoparametric interface element for two dimensional cohesive fracture propagation problems is developed. In the last two decades, we have witnessed a growing spread of touchless interfaces, facilitated by higher performances of computational systems, as well as the increased availability of cheaper sensors and devices. Putting the focus on gestural input, several researchers and designers used Kinect-like devices to implement touchless gestural interfaces.
