ABSTRACT In the framework of the Astronomical Light Optical Hybrid Analysis (ALOHA) laboratory mid-infrared (MIR) up-conversion fibred interferometer in the L band, we report on the influence of the input-stage architecture. Using an amplitude division set-up in the visible or near-infrared is a straightforward choice in most cases. In the MIR context, the results are slightly different and we show that a wavefront division set-up is needed. These in-laboratory principle experiments allow us to measure a reliable 88 per cent instrumental contrast with high flux and to obtain fringes from faint sources at 3.5 μm with a spectral bandwith of 37 nm converted to 817 nm. VLBI Observations of FRI Radio Galaxies

The Fanaroff-Riley type I radio galaxies (Fanaroff & Riley, 1974) presented in this paper belong to the complete sample of low-intermediate luminosity radio galaxies published in Giovannini, Feretti & Comoretto (1990). This sample includes radio galaxies with different morphologies on the arcsecond scale, such as compact sources, core-halos, FRIs and FRIIs.

VLBI Observations of Radio Galaxies

We undertook a project of observation of a complete sample of radio galaxies with the VLBI technique, in order to test: a) current models on jet dynamics and b) the radio source unified schemes. A preliminary analysis based on the data obtained by us for 10 galaxies of our sample indicates that the parsec scale structure in low power radio galaxies (FR-I) and high power radio galaxies (FR-II) is essentially the same.

Single-shot slightly off-axis digital holographic microscopy with add-on module based on beamsplitter cube

Slightly off-axis digital holographic microscopy (SO-DHM) has recently emerged as a novel experimental arrangement for quantitative phase imaging (QPI). It offers improved capabilities in conventional on-axis and off-axis interferometric configurations. In this contribution, we report on a single-shot SO-DHM approach based on an add-on module adapted to the exit port of a regular microscope. The module employs a beamsplitter (BS) cube interferometer and includes, in addition, a Stokes lens (SL) for astigmatism compensation. Superresolution digital holographic microscopy for three-dimensional samples.

An approach that allows superresolution imaging of three-dimensional (3-D) samples by numerical refocusing is presented in the field of digital holographic microscopy. Based on the object's spectrum shift produced by tilted illumination, we present a time multiplexing superresolved approach to overcome the Abbe's diffraction limit. The proposed approach uses a microscope in a Mach-Zehnder interferometric architecture with the particularity that the output plane does not coincide with the image plane. Experiments on optical fiber interferometers and laser modes

Three experiments on optical fiber interferometers, suitable for a teaching laboratory, are described. The guiding characteristics of single mode optical fibers enable simple interferometry experiments with large path differences to be carried out easily. These experiments show that the fringe visibility exhibits a periodic dependence on the path difference when using a multilongitudinal mode HeNe laser. A simple model can be used to explain this dependence in terms of the mode spectrum of the laser.

Expansion of SN 1993J

1995

A sequence of images from very long baseline interferometry shows that the young radio supernova SN 1993J is expanding with circular symmetry. However, the circularly symmetric images show emission asymmetries. A scenario in which freely expanding supernova ejecta shock mostly isotropic circumstellar material is strongly favored. The sequence of images constitutes the first “movie” of a radio supernova.

Precision measurement of two iodine lines at 585 nm and 549 nm

The transition frequencies of thei-component of the R(99)15-1 and thew-component of the R(85)26-0 transition in the B-X system of molecular127I2 have been determined with an overall relative standard uncertainty of 1.3 · 10−10. For this purpose a commercial linear dye laser has been modified and stabilized to the corresponding iodine line. This dye laser serves as a transportable frequency standard which is compared with the wavelength standards of the PTB. The evaluation of an experiment for testing special relativity at the test storage ring (TSR) in Heidelberg is based on the precision of the reported interferometric wavelength comparison.

Deconvolution of the spectral line profiles for the plasma temperature estimation

Abstract The Hg 253.7 nm spectral line profiles, emitted from the mercury–argon high-frequency electrodeless discharge lamps (HFEDL) have been measured by means of a high-resolution scanning Fabry–Perrot interferometer at the mercury cold spot temperature value at 20 °C, different discharge current and buffer gas values. The deconvolution procedure by means of the Tikhonov's regularization method was performed to obtain the real spectral line shape. The influence of the instrumental function and absorption, real width of the Hg 253.7 nm resonance line and temperature of the radiating atoms are obtained. Effects of partial thermalization on HBT interferometry

Hydrodynamical models have generally failed to describe interferometry radii measured at RHIC. In order to investigate this ``HBT puzzle'', we carry out a systematic study of HBT radii in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions within a two-dimensional transport model. We compute the transverse radii $R_o$ and $R_s$ as functions of $p_t$ for various values of the Knudsen number, which measures the degree of thermalization in the system. For realistic values of the Knudsen number estimated from $v_2$ data, we obtain $R_o/R_s \simeq 1.2$, much closer to data than standard hydrodynamical results.
