Exchange-transfer in mixed-valence clusters with one migrating hole

Abstract A new mechanism for exchange-transfer specific to hole-type mixed-valence clusters is proposed. The intermediate state in the second-order exchange-transfer process is achieved by the jump of the electron from the spin-core of the dn+1 ion into the empty orbital of the dn ion. As distinguished from the mixed-valence clusters with one delocalized electron this intermediate state is the high-spin one giving rise to a ferromagnetic contribution to the ground manifold. Abstract Rh 2 (O 2 CCF 3 ) 4 reacts with two mol of triphenylphosphine forming the adduct Rh 2 (O 2 CCF 3 ) 4 (PPh 3 ) 2 . This compound in solution, even at room temperature, undergoes slow stepwise orthometalation of the phosphine ligands forming the doubly metalated compound Rh 2 (O 2 CCF 3 ) 2 [(C 6 H 4 )P(C 6 H 5 ) 2 ] 2 . This reaction has been monitored by 31 P NMR spectroscopy detecting in solution three reaction intermediates. Efficiency range of the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction to induce the self-organization of transient bonds in metallo-supramolecular polymeric systems.

The periodic change of the oxidation state of the metal catalyst in the oscillating Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction has been reported to establish a periodic organization of metallo-supramolecular bonds in polymeric systems, which results in autonomous viscosity oscillations. To appraise the possible extent of quantitative control on the viscosity oscillation features, we assess how the kinetics of the BZ reaction affects the periodic self-organization of the metal-ligand coordination, and vice versa. Expression of the transcription factor Pax6 in the adult rat dentate gyrus

The transcription factor Pax 6 is expressed in precursor cells during embryonic CNS development, and it plays an important role in the regulation of cell proliferation and neuronal fate determination. Pax 6-expressing cells are also present in the adult hippocampal dentate gyrus and subventricular zone/rostral migratory stream, regions in which neuronal precursors exist during adult life. In the adult dentate gyrus, precursor cells are located in the innermost portion of the granule cell layer, and Pax 6-expressing nuclei are most abundant in this region. Identification of protein IT of the intestinal cytoskeleton as a novel type I cytokeratin with unusual properties and expression patterns.

A major cytoskeletal polypeptide (Mr approximately 46,000; protein IT) of human intestinal epithelium was characterized by biochemical and immunological methods. The polypeptide, which was identified as a specific and genuine mRNA product by translation in vitro, reacted, in immunoblotting after SDS-PAGE, only with one of numerous cytokeratin (CK) antisera tested but with none of many monoclonal CK antibodies. The natural history of Echinorhynchus bothniensis Zdzitowiecki and Valtonen, 1987 (Acanthocephala) in a high Arctic lake

The acanthocephalan Echinorhynchus bothniensis Zdzitowiecki and Valtonen, 1987 differs from most other species in the genus Echinorhynchus Zoega in Müller, 1776 by infecting mysids (order Mysida) instead of amphipods (order Amphipoda) as intermediate hosts. Here we report on the occurrence of E. bothniensis in mysids (Mysis segerstralei Audzijonytė et Väinölä) and in its fish definitive hosts in a high Arctic lake. Out of 15907 sampled mysids, 4.8% were infected with a mean intensity of 1.05 worms (range 1–5), although there was notable variation between samples taken in different years and sites. Echinostomes are a rather heterogeneous group of cosmopolitan hermaphroditic digeneans that inhabit, as adults, the intestine of a great spectrum of vertebrate hosts, such as birds, mammals and, occasionally, reptiles and fishes. They can also parasitize humans causing the food-borne infection called echinostomiasis. The definitive hosts become infected after ingestion of the second intermediate host harboring the encysted metacercariae. Electrochemical reduction and carboxylation of halobenzophenones

Abstract The electrochemical reduction of a series of halogenated benzophenones XC6H4COC6H4Y (1) was studied in aprotic solvents, in the absence and presence of CO2, by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and controlled-potential electrolysis. The mechanism of electroreduction in dimethylformamide (DMF) has been investigated in some detail. Most of the compounds undergo reductive carbonhalogen bond cleavage in the time window of CV. The radical anions derived from difluorobenzophenones (X=Y=4-F; X=2-F, Y=4-F) as well as from the 3-chloro derivative are quite stable with a cleavage rate constant (kc) of the order of 10−2 s−1 or less.
