Quasistationary solutions of scalar fields around accreting black holes

2016

Massive scalar fields can form long-lived configurations around black holes. These configurations, dubbed quasi-bound states, have been studied both in the linear and nonlinear regimes. In this paper we show that quasi-bound states can form in a dynamical scenario in which the mass of the black hole grows significantly due to the capture of infalling matter. We solve the Klein-Gordon equation numerically in spherical symmetry, mimicking the evolution of the spacetime through a sequence of analytic Schwarzschild black hole solutions of increasing mass. It is found that the frequency of oscillation of the quasi-bound states decreases as the mass of the black hole increases. In addition, accre…

Effects of Flaring Activity on Dynamics of Accretion Disks in YSOs

2009

We investigate the effects of strong flares on the accretion phenomena in YSOs. Among all classical assumptions, the model accounts magnetic-field oriented thermal conduction. We study the global dynamics of the system for two positions of the heating release triggering the flare.

Probing Chiral Symmetry of Nucleons by Threshold    Production

2001

Double meson production of eta and pi mesons in the threshold region is investigated in order to determine chiral properties of the nucleon. The eta can be used as a probe for the negative parity nucleon N ∗ ≡ N ∗ (1535), produced in the intermediate state. The coupling of the low energy pion in the final state is then used to extract the sign of the Yukawa coupling, gπN∗N ∗ , which distinguishes the two realizations of chiral symmetry, naive and mirror, for the nucleon.

Fission dynamics: The quest of a temperature dependent nuclear viscosity

2013

This paper presents a journey within some open questions about the current use of a temperature dependent nuclear viscosity in models of nuclear fission and proposes an alternative experimental approach by using systems of intermediate fissility. This study is particularly relevant because: i) systems of intermediate fissility offer a suitable frame-work since the intervals between the compound nucleus and scission point temperatures with increasing excitation energy are much smaller than in the case of heavier systems, ii) the dependence of viscosity on the temperature may change with the fissility of the composite system; iii) the opportunity to measure also observables in the evaporation…

Threshold expansion of Feynman diagrams within a configuration space technique

2000

The near threshold expansion of generalized sunset-type (water melon) diagrams with arbitrary masses is constructed by using a configuration space technique. We present analytical expressions for the expansion of the spectral density near threshold and compare it with the exact expression obtained earlier using the method of the Hankel transform. We formulate a generalized threshold expansion with partial resummation of the small mass corrections for the strongly asymmetric case where one particle in the intermediate state is much lighter than the others.

Fallback accretion onto magnetized neutron stars and the hidden magnetic field model

2015

The observation of several neutron stars with relatively low values of the surface magnetic field found in supernova remnants has led in recent years to controversial interpretations. A possible explanation is the slow rotation of the proto-neutron star at birth which is unable to amplify its magnetic field to typical pulsar levels. An alternative possibility, the hidden magnetic field scenario, seems to be favoured over the previous one due to the observation of three low magnetic field magnetars. This scenario considers the accretion of the fallback of the supernova debris onto the neutron star as the responsible for the observed low magnetic field. In this work, we have studied under whi…

Disc loss and renewal in A0535+26

1999

This paper presents observations of the Be/X-ray binary system A0535+26 revealing the first observed loss of its circumstellar disc, demonstrated by the loss of its JHK infrared excess and optical/IR line emission. However optical/IR spectroscopy reveals the formation of a new inner disc with significant density and emission strength at small radii; the disc has proven to be stable over 5 months in this intermediate state.

Energy- and k -resolved mapping of the magnetic circular dichroism in threshold photoemission from Co films on Pt(111)

2017

The magnetic circular dichroism in threshold photoemission (TPMCD) for perpendicularly magnetized fcc Co films on Pt(111) has been revisited. A complete mapping of the spectral function $I({E}_{B},{k}_{x},{k}_{y})$ (binding energy ${E}_{B}$, momentum parallel to surface ${k}_{x}$, ${k}_{y}$) and the corresponding TPMCD asymmetry distribution ${A}_{\mathrm{MCD}}({E}_{B},{k}_{x},{k}_{y})$ has been performed for one-photon and two-photon photoemission using time-of-flight momentum microscopy. The experimental results allow distinguishing direct from indirect transitions. The measurements reveal clear band features of direct transitions from bulk bands that show a nontrivial asymmetry pattern. …

Neutron yield from a thick target irradiated by 90MeV protons

2005

In the context or the design of an intense source of low and intermediate energy, neutrons, the angular and energy distributions of neutrons produced in the interaction of 90 MeV protons in a C-12 target, in which the protons are stopped, have been measured by time-of-flight and activation techniques, As compared to C-12 the yield is less than a factor two higher, while it is somewhat less than for a Be-9 target. Effects of aNcc¯*resonance with hidden charm in theπ−p→D−Σc+reaction near threshold

2015

We study the effect of a hidden charm nuclear excited state ${N}_{c\overline{c}}^{*}$ in the ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}}_{c}^{+}$ reaction near threshold using an effective Lagrangian approach. We calculate the background contribution of the $t$ and $u$ channels by the ${D}^{*0}$ vector meson exchange and ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}}_{c}^{++}$ intermediate state, respectively. We show that the consideration of a ${N}_{c\overline{c}}^{*}$ resonance provides an enhancement of the total cross section close to the reaction threshold. We also evaluate the differential cross section for different energies and w…
