The intermediate nerve (IN), also called the nerve of Wrisberg, is a relatively small nerve with a variable anatomical course. Currently, this nerve is not addressed well in the pertinent literature. Pre-operative diagnosis of IN tumours is clinically challenging due to the lack of related symptoms. Symptoms are typically caused by the functional deterioration of neighbouring anatomical structures. In this report, we describe a patient with a schwannoma that arose at the porus acusticus of the internal auditory canal; during surgery, this proved to originate from the IN. Urine tropenol ester levels in workers handling tiotropium bromide synthesis: implications for exposure prevention and biomonitoring

Tropenol ester is a highly toxic anticholinergic substance and an intermediate used in industrial production of the bronchodilator tiotropium bromide. The aim of this study was to systematically test workers involved in its production for tropenol ester in urine to identify any exposure pathways and define additional preventive measures. Twelve workers performing tasks involving potential exposure to tropenol ester were repeatedly monitored at the end of each production cycle. Abstract PURPOSE: Elevated plasma concentrations of low-density lipoproteins (LDL) increase risk for coronary heart disease. However, lipoprotein profiles rich in small, dense LDL particles confer greater risk than those that mainly consist of large, buoyant LDL. This may be due, in part, to the greater oxidative susceptibility of small, dense LDL. Between Nov. 1985 and Nov. 1988, sixty-three patients with high grade malignant (hg) and intermediate grade malignant (img) Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma (NHL) were treated with MACOP-B (methotrexate, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, vincristine, prednisone and bleomycin). Thirty-seven patients received MACOP-B as an upfront treatment modality, whereas twenty-six patients had relapsed disease and received MACOP-B as a salvage protocol. Four weeks after termination of therapy, 75% of patients with de novo NHL and 72% of the patients with relapsed NHL were in complete remission (CR). A 20-month-old girl showed typical clinical signs of Farber disease: hoarseness since birth, and periarticular subcutaneous painful nodules. Complete deficiency of acid ceramidase activity was found in cultured skin fibroblasts. An electron microscopic examination of a dermal nodule disclosed pathognomonic tubular inclusions in histiocytes. In epidermal cells zebra-body-like and needle-like lysosomal inclusions were found. Their ultrastructure is different from that of the intrahistiocytic lysosomal inclusions.
