The analysis of the concept of vulnerability on the International legal framework on Human Trade

2018

The establishment of the Trafficking1 and the Smuggling Protocol2 has brought to the surface the importance of the concept of vulnerability. However, the Protocols have not given a precise definition to the concept of vulnerability, in order to perceive a practical application on legal grounds. In 2005, the Council of Europe tries to delimit the definition’s gap of such concept, through the Convention of Warsaw3, giving a more exact definition of the concept. The present article intends to analyse the evolution and the application of this concept on the international legal framework on Human trafficking and Smuggling of migrants.

Trade in Central and Eastern European countries ten years after their EU accession — Is there convergence?

2015

The paper focuses on the effects of EU’s Eastern Enlargement of 2004 on trade convergence within the EU and among the new member states from Central and Eastern Europe (CEE-8). Using sigma-convergence approach, it finds evidence of convergence of exports and imports per capita as well as of productivity levels associated with the member states’ export baskets. Convergence of territorial and commodity structures of trade has not occurred; conversely, divergence has been observed, leading to the possible conclusion that multinational companies have adjusted their production structure in facilities across the EU to achieve higher economies of scale. Correlation analysis shows that revealed com…

Critical assessment of support for the evolution of photovoltaics and feed-in tariff(s) in Italy

2015

Abstract The feed-in tariff(s) mechanism involves an obligation on the part of an electricity provider to purchase electricity generated by renewable energy sources in its relevant area, paying a tariff determined by public authorities and guaranteed for a specific time period. Feed-in tariff(s) have been the primary mechanism used for supporting the development of renewable energy sources in the EU and, up to date, they are being applied in 20 EU Member Countries. On 6 July 2013, the Italian experience with feed-in tariff(s) for photovoltaic systems finished. During its lifetime of eight years, this incentive mechanism, named “Conto Energia”, was characterized by periods of great success f…

The Impact of the Poland Foreign Trade On Its Real CO2 Emissions

2017

CO2 emissions are a global problem. This means that nothing or very little will change if only particular countries are involved. The purpose of this paper is the attempt to show the real CO2 emissions of the Poland as well as the impact of its trade on CO2 emissions in other countries in the world and in the EU in 2015. This study was conducted on the group of countries that are the major emitters of CO2 in the world including most of the EU members. Actual CO2 emissions were achieved by applying the actual emission factor. This takes into account the transfer of CO2 in export products and services as well as those imported by particular countries. It has turned out that the real CO2 emiss…

Measuring the impact of regional export promotion: The Spanish case

2008

This article estimates the effect of Spanish regional trade agencies abroad on exports using the gravity model. The results indicate that regional agencies increase trade. The estimated impact seems to be larger than that of Spanish embassies and consulates. Moreover, a dis- aggregated analysis shows that this effect is not evenly distributed across Spanish regions.

Internationalisation process of Spanish banks: strategic orientation after the mergers

2003

The present globalisation of the economy is one of the main forces driving the internationalisation process of firms, a phenomenon that has been one of the most widely studied in the literature and which has given rise to numerous explanatory theories. The manufacturing sectors of machinery, food, textiles, furniture have already consolidated their presence in international markets, induced by the increased competition deriving from liberalisation of foreign trade and the desire to conquer new markets. If in manufacturing sectors globalisation has been high, the service sector has not been far behind. One of the sectors that has been most influenced by changes in the competitive framework i…

The Ricardian system: a graphical exposition

2017

Ever since its publication, Pasinetti’s 1960 paper has been a primary reference for all scholars interested in Ricardian economics. However, Kaldor's 1955-6 diagram is a very effective tool for depicting the salient features of the Ricardian system and its full heuristic potentialities are still under-explored. Accordingly, we give it pride of place in this paper. In what follows, after a brief presentation of a slightly amended version of Kaldor’s original diagram, we show how this diagram may be modified to represent Pasinetti’s two-sector model of a closed economy. Next we use it to analyse alternative consumption patterns. Finally, we employ a variant of Kaldor’s diagram to study a two-…
