Industrial branding in the digital age
2015
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to describe the overall branding logic of an international industrial company operating in the renewable energy industry and to respond to calls for empirical research on how to build a business-to-business (B2B) brand in the digital age and how digital media can be used for branding. A digital branding model is also developed. Design/methodology/approach – A single case study of a company at the forefront of digital media usage is used to develop the model. The main data come from semi-structured theme interviews and from content analysis of the channels used to create a brand on the Internet. Findings – In the digital age, firms seem to benefit from…
Consumers’ neutralization strategies to counter normative pressure : The case of illegal downloading
2014
International audience; The process of neutralization of normative pressure by consumers, which allows the performance of deviant practices while maintaining the attachment to the norm, has not been sufficiently studied. Our analysis, in the case of illegal downloading, shows that consumers produce an autonomous discursive set, articulated around three defensive strategies (disempowerment as neutralizing, pragmatic neutralization, ideological neutralization) and accept internal contradiction.
Energy Harvesting Powered Packet Transmissions in Duty-Cycled WSNs: A DTMC Analysis
2017
Energy harvesting (EH) promises an extended lifetime for wireless sensor networks (WSNs), supplying sensor nodes with accumulated energy from natural sources. Different from battery powered sensors, nodes in EH-enabled WSNs are equipped with an energy harvesting accessory in order to extract energy from surrounding sources. Based upon the harvested energy, sensor nodes perform data exchange activities. In this paper, we develop two discrete time Markov chain (DTMC) models to analyze the performance of packet transmissions in such a WSN while employing a generic synchronous medium access control (MAC) protocol. Using the proposed DTMC models, we investigate the effect of EH over a specific s…
A Scratch-based Graphical Policy Editor for XACML
2015
This paper proposes a policy-maker-friendly editor for the extensible Access Control Markup Language (XACML) based on the programming language Scratch. Scratch is a blocks-based programming language designed for teaching children programming, which allows users to build programs like a puzzle. We take this concept one step further with an XACML policy editor based on the graphic programming elements of Scratch implemented in Smalltalk. This allows for aiding the user on how to build policies by grouping blocks and operators that fit together and also indicating which blocks that will stick together. It simplifies building the XACML policies while still having an XACML “feel” of the graphic …
Esineiden internet luo kodistasi älykkään ympäristön
2015
Tutki…
Free spectral range enlargement by selective suppression of optical modes in photonic crystal L7 microcavities
2015
We show an enlargement in the free spectral range (FSR) of the emission spectra of a L7 photonic crystal microcavity (PCM). The FSR enlargement is achieved by the selective modal suppression of the second cavity mode. The selective suppression is made by introducing two nano-inclusions in specific sites within the defect region that forms the cavity. We have demonstrated the suppression of the second mode of the L7-PCM, and a significant increase in the FSR of the fundamental mode. The method provides an alternative to engineer the modal structure of a photonic crystal microcavity. The large FSR-value might improve the emission properties of light sources based on photonic crystal structure…
Research Regarding the Influence of Raw Material and Knitted Fabric Geometry on the Tensile Strength and Breaking Elongation
2016
Abstract The main purpose of this research paper is to increase the performance of knitting process during socks manufacturing by choosing the right knitted fabric geometry and raw material. On the other side, tests results show the wear resistance regarding mechanical properties like tensile strength and breaking elongation of knitted fabrics for socks. To obtain samples knitted fabric were used several types of some classic yarns, which already use to obtain socks organic also another type of yarns less used: cotton, organic cotton, bamboo viscose, soy + cotton, Tencel. From these yarns the following knitted fabric geometry were obtained: plated single jersey, plated ribb 4:2 and plated p…
On Equivalent Random Traffic method extension
2011
The key result of the paper is the Equivalent Random Traffic (ERT) method extension for estimation of the throughput for schemes with traffic splitting. The excellent accuracy (relative error is less than 1%) is shown in numerical example. A numerical algorithm is given — how to estimate the throughput for schemes at traffic splitting and merging. The paper also contains new Erlang-B formula algorithm for non-integer number of channels based on parabolic approximation.
Greedy versus Dynamic Channel Aggregation Strategy in CRNs: Markov Models and Performance Evaluation
2011
Part 1: - PE-CRN 2011 Workshop; International audience; In cognitive radio networks, channel aggregation techniques which aggregate several channels together as one channel have been proposed in many MAC protocols. In this paper, we consider elastic data traffic and spectrum adaptation for channel aggregation, and propose two new strategies named as Greedy and Dynamic respectively. The performance of channel aggregation represented by these strategies is evaluated using continuous time Markov chain models. Moreover, simulation results based on various traffic distributions are utilized in order to evaluate the validity and preciseness of the mathematical models.
Wireless sensor network coverage problem using modified fireworks algorithm
2016
Wireless sensor networks are emerging technology with increasing number of applications, and consequently an active research area. One of the problems pertinent to wireless sensor networks is the coverage problem with number of definitions, depending on the assumed conditions. In this paper we consider hard optimization area coverage problem with the goal of finding optimal sensor nodes positions that maximize probabilistic coverage of the area of interest. For such type of optimization problem swarm intelligence stochastic metaheuristics have been successfully used. In this paper we propose a modified enhanced fireworks algorithm for wireless sensor network coverage problem and compare it …
