Joint LMMSE equalizer for HSDPA in full-rate space time transmit diversity schemes
2005
This contribution presents a joint linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) equalizer for full-rate space-time transmit diversity multi-code schemes based on W-CDMA, featuring two and four transmit antennas. Specifically, high-rate, high load systems are targeted, in order to analyze the high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) of 3GPP Release 6. We derive an equivalent transmission scheme to equalize the received sufficient statistic in a single stage. To reduce the effects of multipath and multiuser interference, and to provide spatial and frequency diversity at the receiver, an LMMSE equalizer is employed. Computer simulations confirm that the proposed schemes achieve robust performance…
Performance Analysis of Memory Cloning Solutions in Mobile Edge Computing
2018
This paper deals with the problem of service migration in the emerging scenarios of Mobile Edge Computing. Mobile edge computing is achieved by moving the traditional cloud infrastructures, exploited by many today applications, close to the network edge in order to reduce the response times in the so called tactile-internet. However, because of user mobility, such an application architecture may pose the problem of service migration in case of handover from one server site to another. After introducing the current solutions for dealing with service migration and, in particular, the approaches based on service decomposition into multiple layers, we quantify the migration time and the service…
How perceived security appears in the commercialisation of internet banking
2005
Security has been widely recognised as one of the main barriers to the adoption of internet innovation. Many studies suggest that firms operating on the internet must first convince their customers about the security of internet as a medium. This paper presents empirical evidence that Finnish internet customers do not consider internet banking as unsecured as past literature suggests. In fact, our research findings suggest that Finnish internet banking services are considered secured in all our target groups, which present a vast sample of today's Finnish internet customers. However, mobile banking customers seem to have somewhat more security concerns than internet banking customers. Our e…
Placing links in mobile banking application
2005
This study compares two alternative ways to organize links as navigation elements in mobile banking applications. For the comparison, two alternative banking applications were tested. The applications that were tested had the same content but different ways to navigate with links. One of them provided a system where the user was required to use specific menu pages for navigation and where there were no cross-navigation enabling links on content pages. The other application had cross-navigation enabling links on content pages. The comparison was done by conducting a usability test with 30 test users. The users' performance and subjective feedback were measured in the test. The application wi…
NFVMon: Enabling Multioperator Flow Monitoring in 5G Mobile Edge Computing
2018
With the advances of new-generation wireless and mobile communication systems such as the fifth-generation (5G) mobile networks and Internet of Things (IoT) networks, demanding applications such as Ultra-High-Definition video applications is becoming ever popular. These applications require real-time monitoring and processing to meet the mission-critical quality of service requirements and are expected to be supported by the emerging fog or edge computing paradigms. This paper presents NFVMon, a novel monitoring architecture to enable flow monitoring capabilities of network traffic in a 5G multioperator mobile edge computing environment. The proposed NFVMon is integrated with the management…
Mobile Internet Adoption by Spanish Consumers
2009
The chapter aims to present an in-depth study of the factors influencing Mobile Internet adoption. The authors analyse the influence of Internet use experience, compatibility, perceived financial risk, credibility and attitude towards Mobile Internet in the M-Internet adoption decision. After identifying the key drivers of M-Internet adoption, the second part of the chapter presents an empirical study of the Spanish market. Results based on a sample of 213 Internet users show that Internet use experience, MInternet compatibility, credibility and attitude are positive key drivers of M-Internet adoption. Perceived financial risk influences negatively on M-Internet usage intention. This chapte…
Mobile Search - Social Network Search Using Mobile Devices Demonstration
2008
Mobile search prototype demonstrates the possibilities of social network search in N800 mobile devices. Search is initiated from a N800 mobile device to search the contacts in mobile device's addressbook. The contacts can be other N800 mobile devices running mobile Web server or normal Web servers in the Internet with Drupal content management system. Mobile device users can select which of their personal information such as phone numbers, calendar data etc. to share via a mobile Web server. The proposed search mechanism has many benefits compared to centralized Web search engines like Google. The search can locate information which is not referenced anywhere and thus allows hidden or rare …
Streaming for vehicular users via elastic proxy buffer management
2004
In this article we refer to the market of vehicular networks, where groups of customers located in the same public vehicle (e.g., a train or bus) connect to a terrestrial network through a wireless/satellite backbone link. Elastic buffering is a proxy management technique devised to decouple the multimedia information retrieval rate on the network backbone from the playout streaming rate at the user terminal. It has been shown in the past that the application of elastic buffering mechanisms in terrestrial networks brings significant advantages in terms of network effectiveness. We show that elastic buffering is an extremely effective means to reduce, or even eliminate, streaming service out…
Level-Crossing Rate and Average Duration of Fades of the Envelope of Mobile-to-Mobile Fading Channels in Cooperative Networks Under Line-of-Sight Con…
2008
This paper studies the fading behavior of mobile- to-mobile (M2M) fading channels in relay-based cooperative networks under line-of-sight (LOS) conditions. Here, we assume that LOS components exist in both the direct link between the source mobile station (SMS) and the destination mobile station (DMS) as well as in the link via the mobile relay (MR). In such a propagation environment, the fading channel is referred to as the multiple-LOS second-order scattering (MLSS) channel. The fading behavior of MLSS channels is studied by analyzing the level-crossing rate (LCR) and the average duration of fades (ADF) of the received envelope. We have derived analytical expressions for the LCR, ADF, and…
Mobile radio channel models for present and future wireless communication systems
2008
From the beginnings of mobile communication, there is a high demand for realistic models for mobile fading channels. The reason for the demand is that channel models are essential for the performance evaluation, parameter optimisation, and test of mobile communication systems. Design methods for mobile fading channels are therefore of great importance for system engineers who are involved in the development of present and future mobile communication systems. In this presentation, an overview will be given about several design methodologies commonly used for the design of mobile radio channel models in present and future wireless communication systems. All presented channel models have in co…
