Spatio-Temporal Analysis of Urban Acoustic Environments with Binaural Psycho-Acoustical Considerations for IoT-Based Applications

2018

Sound pleasantness or annoyance perceived in urban soundscapes is a major concern in environmental acoustics. Binaural psychoacoustic parameters are helpful to describe generic acoustic environments, as it is stated within the ISO 12913 framework. In this paper, the application of a Wireless Acoustic Sensor Network (WASN) to evaluate the spatial distribution and the evolution of urban acoustic environments is described. Two experiments are presented using an indoor and an outdoor deployment of a WASN with several nodes using an Internet of Things (IoT) environment to collect audio data and calculate meaningful parameters such as the sound pressure level, binaural loudness and binaural sharp…

Integration of Spatial processing and knowledge Processing through the Semantic Web Stack

2011

International audience; This paper presents the integration process of spatial technologies and Semantic Web technologies and its associated tool. The result of this work is a spatial query and rule engine of spatial. To do so, existing ontology with spatial elements is adjusted in order to process the spatial knowledge through spatial technologies. This paper outlines the methods and the processes of these adjustments and how results are returned by our tool. The SWRL and the SPARQL language are extended for spatial purpose and the existing OWL ontology wine is used as an application example.

Interference excision algorithm for frequency hopping spread spectrum based on undecimated wavelet packet transform

2002

An algorithm for reducing narrowband interference effects in frequency hopping spread spectrum is presented. The method is based on the undecimated wavelet packet transform. It improves the performance obtained by other methods. Experimental results demonstrate the suitability of the algorithm.

Building Digital Government by XML

2005

Continuing innovations in information and communication technologies offer powerful tools for building digital government but, at the same time, in many environments they have lead into a number of heterogeneous, expensive, and inconsistent solutions. XML offers a common metalanguage and terminology to develop means for system and data integration, and for gradual transfer to more consistent formats in information assets. The paper describes ways for the use of XML in public administration and gives examples of the use, particularly, in Finland. The paper introduces XML standardization levels and types in public administration. Experiences of the long-term standardization of the Finnish par…

Circuit-Elimination based Link-State Routing in Mobile Ad-hoc Networks

2007

Circuit-elimination based connected dominating set formation is an efficient technique for reducing routing overhead in mobile ad hoc networks. In this paper, we propose a new message dissemination algorithm which utilizes such techniques to reduce the number of nodes that generate or forward link state advertisements in link state routing protocols. Simulation results with both static and dynamic network topologies demonstrate the potential of the proposed algorithm to reduce routing overhead, compared with a benchmark link state routing protocol, OLSR.

Networks of equities in financial markets

2004

We review the recent approach of correlation based networks of financial equities. We investigate portfolio of stocks at different time horizons, financial indices and volatility time series and we show that meaningful economic information can be extracted from noise dressed correlation matrices. We show that the method can be used to falsify widespread market models by directly comparing the topological properties of networks of real and artificial markets.

mRNAStab—a web application for mRNA stability analysis

2013

Abstract Eukaryotic gene expression is regulated both at the transcription and the mRNA degradation levels. The implementation of functional genomics methods that allow the simultaneous measurement of transcription (TR) and degradation (DR) rates for thousands of mRNAs is a huge improvement in this field. One of the best established methods for mRNA stability determination is genomic run-on (GRO). It allows the measurement of DR, TR and mRNA levels during cell dynamic responses. Here, we offer a software package that provides improved algorithms for determination of mRNA stability during dynamic GRO experiments. Availability and implementation: The program mRNAStab is freely accessible at h…

Dynamic-Interactive Graphics for Statistics (26 years later)

2014

This paper briefly reviews the history of dynamic-interactive graphicsfor statistics, introduces an example of such graphics, and provides a fewglimpses as to the current state of things and the future trends we envision. The general conclusion is that dynamic-interactive graphics for statistics arethriving more than ever as they shift from the desktop to the internet. Thus,dynamic-interactive graphics are becoming increasingly important as they: 1) provide non-experts in statistics with the means to carry out analyses on their own; and 2) teach the basic concepts of statistics to students and practitioners with low to moderate  mathematics skills. Their increasingpopularity makes the lesson…

Bayesian hierarchical Poisson models with a hidden Markov structure for the detection of influenza epidemic outbreaks

2015

Considerable effort has been devoted to the development of statistical algorithms for the automated monitoring of influenza surveillance data. In this article, we introduce a framework of models for the early detection of the onset of an influenza epidemic which is applicable to different kinds of surveillance data. In particular, the process of the observed cases is modelled via a Bayesian Hierarchical Poisson model in which the intensity parameter is a function of the incidence rate. The key point is to consider this incidence rate as a normal distribution in which both parameters (mean and variance) are modelled differently, depending on whether the system is in an epidemic or non-epide…

Selfish vs. Unselfish Optimization of Network Creation

2005

We investigate several variants of a network creation model: a group of agents builds up a network between them while trying to keep the costs of this network small. The cost function consists of two addends, namely (i) a constant amount for each edge an agent buys and (ii) the minimum number of hops it takes sending messages to other agents. Despite the simplicity of this model, various complex network structures emerge depending on the weight between the two addends of the cost function and on the selfish or unselfish behaviour of the agents.
