Baseband predistorter using direct spline computation

2005

A baseband predistorter is presented. Key features of the predistorter reside in the use of cubic spline interpolation to generate predistorted input data to the power amplifier, without time convergence problems of classical approaches, with the goal of a reduction in the computational effort. Simulated behaviour of the proposed scheme is presented, demonstrating the effectiveness of the approach.

Phenology Estimation From Meteosat Second Generation Data

2013

Many studies have focused on land surface phenology, for example as a means to characterize both water and carbon cycles for climate model inputs. However, the Spinning Enhanced Visible Infra-Red Imager (SEVIRI) sensor onboard Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) geostationary satellite has never been used for this goal. Here, five years of MSG-SEVIRI data have been processed to retrieve Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) daily time series. Due to existing gaps as well as atmospheric and cloud contamination in the time series, an algorithm based on the iterative Interpolation for Data Reconstruction (IDR) has been developed and applied to SEVIRI NDVI time series, from which phenologi…

Adaptive interpolation with maximum order close to discontinuities

2022

Abstract Adaptive rational interpolation has been designed in the context of image processing as a new nonlinear technique that avoids the Gibbs phenomenon when we approximate a discontinuous function. In this work, we present a generalization to this method giving explicit expressions for all the weights for any order of the algorithm. It has a similar behavior to weighted essentially non oscillatory (WENO) technique but the design of the weights in this case is more simple. Also, we propose a new way to construct them obtaining the maximum order near the discontinuities. Some experiments are performed to demonstrate our results and to compare them with standard methods.

Gully erosion susceptibility mapping using GIS-based multi-criteria decision analysis techniques

2019

Abstract This research introduces a scientific methodology for gully erosion susceptibility mapping (GESM) that employs geography information system (GIS)-based multi-criteria decision analysis. The model was tested in Semnan Province, Iran, which has an arid and semi-arid climate with high susceptibility to gully erosion. The technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) and the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) models were integrated. The important aspect of this research is that it did not require gully erosion inventory maps for GESM. Therefore, the proposed methodology could be useful in areas with missing or incomplete …

Comparative analysis of different techniques for spatial interpolation of rainfall data to create a serially complete monthly time series of precipit…

2011

Abstract The availability of good and reliable rainfall data is fundamental for most hydrological analyses and for the design and management of water resources systems. However, in practice, precipitation records often suffer from missing data values mainly due to malfunctioning of raingauge for specific time periods. This is an important issue in practical hydrology because it affects the continuity of rainfall data and ultimately influences the results of hydrologic studies which use rainfall as input. Many methods to estimate missing rainfall data have been proposed in literature and, among these, most are based on spatial interpolation algorithms. In this paper different spatial interpo…

A nonlinear algorithm for monotone piecewise bicubic interpolation

2016

We present an algorithm for monotone interpolation on a rectangular mesh.We use the sufficient conditions for monotonicity of Carlton and Fritsch. We use nonlinear techniques to approximate the partial derivatives at the grid points. We develop piecewise bicubic Hermite interpolants with these approximations. We present some numerical examples where we compare different results. In this paper we present an algorithm for monotone interpolation of monotone data on a rectangular mesh by piecewise bicubic functions. Carlton and Fritsch (1985) develop conditions on the Hermite derivatives that are sufficient for such a function to be monotone. Here we extend our results of Arandiga (2013) to obtain…

A remarkable equality referring to spline functions in Hilbert spaces

2010

In the introduction of this paper is presented the definition of the generalized spline functions as solutions of a variational problem and are shown some theorems regarding to the existence and uniqueness. The main result of this article consists in a remarkable equality verified by the generalized spline elements, based on the properties of the spaces, operator and interpolatory set involved, which can be used as a characterization theorem of the generalized spline functions in Hilbert spaces.

Lauro Chiazzese, lo studio delle interpolazioni e i confronti ‘ritrovati’

2020

Summary A first draft of the Parte speciale of Chiazzese’s Confronti Testuali, projected as complement of the Parte generale published in 1933, was known for quite some time, but was only recently published by Falcone. Although this is an important transcription work of the manuscript, the reconstruction provided about the historical background – partially based on two different versions of an anecdote – should be read taking into account some clarifications.

Identification and validation of quasispecies models for biological systems

2009

An identification procedure for biological systems cast as quasi-species models is proposed. Their identification is a challenging problem because of the bilinear dependence on the parameters and their physical constraints. The proposed solution is within the framework of set-membership identification. %The bilinear dependence on parameters of the model and their physical constraints make the present issue challenging. We determine an estimate of the model parameters together with their interval of variability (Uncertainty Intervals), taking into account all the physical constraints. Invalidation/validation is performed on the basis of the predictive capability of the estimated models. The …
