Recommendations for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic hepatitis B and C in special population groups (migrants, intravenous drug us…

2011

Abstract The global spread of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV), their high chronicity rates and their progression to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, are major public health problems. Research and intervention programmes for special population groups are needed in order to assess their infection risk and set up suitable prevention and control strategies. Aim of this paper is to give health care professionals information on HBV and HCV infections amongst migrants, drug users and prison inmates. The manuscript is an official Position Paper on behalf of the following Scientific Societies: Italian Association for the Study of the Liver (A.I.S.F.), Italian Society of In…

International Society for Nutritional Psychiatry Research consensus position statement: nutritional medicine in modern psychiatry

2015

In recent years, there has been an unprecedented growth in both the quantity and methodological quality of research directed at exploring the relationship between nutrition and mental health. Indeed, the strength of data has now afforded nutritional medicine a place in the mainstream psychiatric discourse (1). Robust associations have been established between nutritional quality and mental health, with the bulk of this evidence indicating a protective effect of healthy diets on depressed mood (2), and the newest research supporting a detrimental impact of unhealthy diets on the mental health of young people (3,4) and adults (5,7). There are also convincing data supporting the application of…

Short-term Psychological Interventions for Bordeline Personality Disorder–What Works?

2017

IntroductionBorderline personality disorder (BPD) is a common and disabling personality disorder associated with difficulties in controlling emotions and impulses, self-injury, feelings of emptiness and abandonment. It is associated with problems in many areas of life, most notably relationships. Psychotherapy is the first-line treatment for people with borderline personality disorder widely used; however, the evidence is not thoroughly investigated. In addition, several specific short-term interventions have been developed during the last decades.ObjectivesWe are currently updating this cochrane collaboration review on psychological interventions for BPD. First findings on the up-to-date e…

Acceptability, reach and implementation of a training to enhance teachers’ skills in physical activity promotion

2020

This is a pre-print of a published study: Renko, E., Knittle, K., Palsola, M. et al. Acceptability, reach and implementation of a training to enhance teachers’ skills in physical activity promotion. BMC Public Health 20, 1568 (2020). https://doi.org/10.1186/s12889-020-09653-x Background: In order to achieve real-world impacts, successful behavior change interventions need to be scaled up and broadly implemented. Implementation is challenging however, and the factors influencing successful implementation are not fully understood. This study describes the nationwide implementation of a complex theory-based program to promote physical activity and reduce sedentary behavior in vocational school…

Are Treatment Gains Maintained? Long-term Psychological Interventions for Bordeline Personality Disorder

2017

IntroductionMany new approaches have been developed to treat borderline personality disorder (BPD) by means of psychotherapy. Though there is a clear research trend towards short-interventions, the evidence from randomised controlled trials (RCT) on longer-term programmes still accumulates. On the one hand, well-established treatments like Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) or Mentalisation-Based Treatment (MBT) are now subject to real-world effectiveness studies; on the other hand, new dynamic approaches have been studied, lasting longer than 6 months.ObjectivesWe are currently updating the cochrane Collaboration review on psychological interventions for BPD. First findings on the effects …

Neuropsychological subgroups of adolescents with conduct disorder

2010

Narhi, V., Lehto-Salo, P., Ahonen, T. & Marttunen, M. (2010). Neuropsychological subgroups of adolescents with conduct disorder. Scandinavian Journal of Psychology, 51, 278–284. In group-level studies adolescents with conduct disorder (CD) have been found to have deficiencies in verbal and executive functions. Teichner and Golden (2000) addressed the neuropsychological heterogeneity of CD, and hypothesized the existence of six neuropsychologically different subgroups. We used that theoretical basis to identify subgroups among 77 adolescents with CD and 48 controls. Among subjects with CD we identified subjects with no, diffuse, verbal and executive function deficits, but none with specific …

Basics of Image Interpretation in Interventional Neuroradiology

2011

The majority of patients with cerebral vascular diseases, demanding neuroradiological interventions are those, who present with potential life-threatening spontaneous intracranial/intracerebral haemorrhages due to cerebral aneurysms or/and arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) or with cerebral infarction due to intra-arterial thrombi in cerebral arteries. Neuroradiological procedures (interventional neuroradiology) (IN), always, performed in general anaesthesia can be divided into occluding and opening interventions.

Interventional cardiology: Differences in the morphology of unstable and stable coronary lesions and their impact on the mechanisms of angioplasty. A…

1996

The aim of this study was to compare the morphology of stable and unstable coronary lesions using intravascular ultrasound in patients undergoing coronary balloon angioplasty and to determine whether lesion morphology had any influence on the mechanism of balloon angioplasty. Thirty three (15 stable and 18 unstable) patients undergoing single lesion percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty were studied with intravascular ultrasound before and after intervention. All examinations, recorded on S-VHS video tape, were studied off-line and matched sites from the point of minimum lumen area after the procedure and the corresponding site prior to intervention were compared. The morphology of…

New frontiers in liver ultrasound: From mono to multi parametricity

2021

Modern liver ultrasonography (US) has become a "one-stop shop " able to provide not only anatomic and morphologic but also functional information about vascularity, stiffness and other various liver tissue properties. Modern US techniques allow a quantitative assessment of various liver diseases. US scanning is no more limited to the visualized plane, but three-dimensional, volumetric acquisition and consequent post-processing are also possible. Further, US scan can be consistently merged and visualized in real time with Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging examinations. Effective and safe microbubble-based contrast agents allow a real time, dynamic study of contrast kinetic f…
