Tukea vanhemmuuteen valmistautumiseen : kirjallisuuskatsaus perhevalmennusohjelmien sisällöistä ja työmuodoista
2019
Developing and testing a discrete event simulation model to evaluate budget impacts of diabetes prevention programs
2020
Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is one of the most rapidly increasing non-communicable diseases worldwide. Lifestyle interventions are effective in preventing T2D but also resource intensive. This study evaluated with discrete event simulation (DES) the relative budget impacts of three hypothetical diabetes prevention programs (DPP), including group-based contact intervention, digital program with human coaching and fully automated program. The data for simulation were derived from research literature and national health and population statistics. The model was constructed using the iGrafx Process for Six Sigma software and simulations were carried out for 10 years. All simulated interventions produc…
CareACT - internet-based intervention for enhancing the psychological well-being of elderly caregivers – a study protocol of a controlled trial
2019
Abstract Background The rapid increase in the number of elderly family caregivers underlines the need for new support systems. Internet-delivered psychological interventions are a potential approach, as they are easy to access for family caregivers who are often homebound with their care recipient. This study examines the relative effectiveness of an internet-based acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) intervention or a standardized institutional rehabilitation program, first, in reducing depressive symptoms, and second, in improving the well-being and quality of life of elderly family caregivers compared to a control group receiving support from voluntary family caregiver associations. M…

Flow with Nature treatment for depression: Participants’ experiences
2022
This study examined Flow with Nature (FWN) treatment, which is an integrative intervention (rehabilitation) based on eco and environmental psychology, psychotherapeutic theories and professional psychological practice. FWN is intended for depression rehabilitation with the help of social support, nature environments and FWN exercises. Exercises encourage sensing the environment, mindful awareness, psychological processing and focusing on the future. The FWN treatment proceeds in separate stages (horizon, growth and path), which emphasise nature, group (social support) and FWN exercises differently. This study focused on the experiences of the participants in the FWN treatment. Finnish adult…

Long-term stability of early sudden gains in an acceptance and values-based intervention
2019
Though previous research has extensively reported that sudden gains are associated with superior treatment results, research on the long-term effects and stability of sudden gains is not as consistent. The current study explored the long-term stability of early sudden gains (ESGs) observed in a brief acceptance and values-based intervention for depression provided by novice therapists. The participants were 56 volunteers diagnosed with major depressive disorder. Among the participants, 23% experienced ESGs, i.e. they reached the status of improved or recovered in the Reliable Change Index (RCI; Jacobson & Truax, 1991) classification after only two sessions. The current study examined the le…
Examining mediators of change in wellbeing, stress, and depression in a blended, Internet-based, ACT intervention for university students
2020
A coach-guided Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) intervention that uses a blended approach of two face-to-face and five online sessions (iACT; N = 33) has been found to be more effective than a waiting-list control condition (WLC; N = 35) at enhancing the wellbeing of university students while also reducing stress and depression. The present study explored possible mediators of change that may account for the outcomes of the study. Mediation analyses revealed that changes in the non-reactivity subscale of mindfulness mediated changes in wellbeing, depression, and stress in the iACT group. In addition, changes in the sense of coherence subscale of meaningfulness mediated changes in all…
Hyväksymis- ja omistautumisterapiaan pohjautuva verkkointerventio opiskelijoille : psykologisen joustavuuden kasvun merkitys ja vaikutukset hyvinvoin…
2017
Tässä tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin hyväksymis- ja omistautumisterapiapohjaisen opiskelijoiden hyvinvoinnin parantamiseen pyrkivän Opiskelijan kompassi –tuetun verkkointervention vaikutuksia yliopisto-opiskelijoiden psykologiseen joustavuuteen ja yleiseen hyvinvointiin. Lisäksi tarkastelun kohteena oli ohjelman aikana tapahtuvan psykologisen joustavuuden muutoksen yhteys opiskelijoiden yleiseen hyvinvointiin, opittuihin taitoihin sekä opiskelijoiden kokemiin ohjelman tuomiin muutoksiin. Tutkimuksessa käytetty aineisto on osa Jyväskylän yliopiston Student Lifehanketta ja se kerättiin lukuvuoden 2015–2016 aikana. Tutkimukseen valikoitui 48 iältään 19–40 – vuotiasta Jyväskylän yliopiston eri tie…
Usage activity, perceived usefulness, and satisfaction in a web-based acceptance and commitment therapy program among Finnish ninth-grade adolescents.
2020
Understanding adolescent usage activity and experiences in web-based psychological intervention programs helps in developing universal programs that can be adopted for promotion of adolescent well-being and prevention of mental health problems. This study examined the usage activity, perceived usefulness (i.e., learning of mindfulness, acceptance and value-related skills), and program satisfaction of 157 Finnish ninth-grade adolescents, who participated in a school-based five-week universal acceptance and commitment therapy web intervention called Youth Compass. Individual and growth environment-related antecedents were measured before the five-week intervention, adolescents' usage activity…
