Abstract Binary mixtures of liquid surfactants, owing to the amphiphilic nature of the molecules involved, can exhibit nano-segregation and peculiar transport properties. Tetrameric and Dimeric [N∙∙∙I+∙∙∙N] Halogen-Bonded Supramolecular Cages

Tripodal N-donor ligands are used to form halogen-bonded assemblies via structurally analogous Ag+-complexes. Selective formation of discrete tetrameric I6L4 and dimeric I3L2 halonium cages, wherein multiple [N∙∙∙I+∙∙∙N] halogen bonds are used in concert, can be achieved by using sterically rigidified cationic tris(1-methyl-1-azonia-4-azabicyclo[2.2.2]octane)-mesitylene ligand, L1(PF6)3, and flexible ligand 1,3,5-tris(imidazole-1-ylmethyl)-2,4,6-trimethylbenzene, L2, respectively. Detecting topology through dynamics in interacting fermionic wires

We describe a protocol to read out the topological invariant of interacting 1D chiral models, based on measuring the mean chiral displacement of time-evolving bulk excitations. We present analytical calculations and numerical Matrix Product State simulations of interacting Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) chains, demonstrating how the mean chiral displacement allows to distinguish between topological insulator, trivial insulator and symmetry-broken phases. Finally, we provide an experimental blueprint for realizing a model displaying these three phases and describe how to detect those.
Synthesis of new cationic donor-stabilized phosphenium adducts and their unexpected P-substituent exchange reactions

The reaction between two 1,3-dialkylimidazolium-2-carboxylates 1a and 1b and two different dichlorophosphines (RPCl(2), with R = Ph and NEt(2)) led to new donor-stabilized phosphenium adducts. When the reaction was performed with the 1,3-dimethylimidazolium-2-carboxylate 1a and PhPCl(2) in a 2:1 ratio, the phosphine 4a, bearing two imidazolium moieties, was obtained and led to 5a, after an anion exchange reaction with KPF(6), the latter being fully characterized by an X-ray structure analysis. Exploring reactivity of a bis-sulfonium zirconocene-ate dimer: synthesis of various zwitterionic phosphonium anionic zirconocene complexes

Abstract Formal [3+2] cycloaddition reactions between the bis-sulfonium zirconocene-ate dimer 1a and methylpropiolate, benzaldehyde and carbon disulfide afforded stable zwitterionic phosphonium zirconocene-ate complexes 2–4, respectively, with two orthocondensed five-membered heterocycles. X-ray crystal structure of 4 has been determined. Elemental chalcogens (S, Se, Te) gave rise also to a new variety of five-coordinate zirconium(IV) complexes (5–7) by a formal [3+1] cycloaddition reaction. In these bicyclic zirconates, sulfur is included in a five-membered ring while the second chalcogen is in a four-membered one.

Deviations from equilibrium at the interface of a charged membrane

The local equilibrium assumption commonly employed for the transport through the interface of a charged membrane has been analysed from a simplified electric double layer model. This layer is characterized on the basis of a surface potential arising from a non-zero surface charge density placed on the membrane surface. The dependence of deviations from local equilibrium on the characteristic parameters of the problem is shown. Connection with the classical treatment by Donnan is discussed. However, the underlying fundamental processes that govern the interplay of lipids and proteins are often very complex and are therefore studied using model systems.
