The impact of information and communication technology (ICT), education and regulation on economic freedom in Islamic Middle Eastern countries
2009
Our study investigated the impact of ICT expansion on economic freedom in the Middle East (Bahrain, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen). Our empirical analysis used archival data from 1995 to 2005; it showed that ICT expansion in the Middle East has been effective both in bridging the digital divide and also in promoting economic freedom in a region that was vulnerable to political, social, and global conflict. However, differences between countries, such as the educational attainment of their citizens and institutional resistance to technology acceptance, both enhanced and restricted the relationship between ICT and economic fre…
Risk transmission between Islamic and conventional stock markets: A return and volatility spillover analysis
2017
Abstract This paper contributes to the current debate on the empirical validity of the decoupling hypothesis of the Islamic stock market from its mainstream counterparts by examining return and volatility spillovers across the global Islamic stock market, three main conventional national stock markets (the US, the UK and Japan) and a number of influential macroeconomic and financial variables over the period from July 1996 to June 2016. To that end, the VAR-based spillover index approach based on the generalized VAR framework developed by Diebold and Yilmaz (2012) is applied. The empirical analysis shows strong interactions in return and volatility among the global Islamic stock market, the…

Islam w Europie - między zagrożeniem a integracją
2020
W artykule nakreślono możliwe reperkusje większej obecności przedstawicieli islamu w Europie na początku XXI stulecia. Odsetek ten wzrósł z 2% w 1950 r. do 6% w 2020.
Niswiyya, Nisā’iyya and Unthawiyya: Some Reflections on Arabic Terms for ‘Feminism
2019
This paper addresses three Arabic terms used for feminism: niswiyya, nisa'iyya and unthawiyya pointing out their connotations and semantic aspects. One of the problems which feminist scholars face is linguistic. There is a historical rejection of the term feminism and all its derivatives in Arabic. It is often perceived as a Western secular product that recalls the bitter experience of European colonialism. The paper draws from the reflection of two Egyptian Islamic intellectuals involved in the question of improving Egyptian women’s conditions. Their words emphasize how the efforts of contemporary Islamic feminists can be discredited just because they fall under the label of ‘Islamic femin…
L’integrazione dei Musulmani in Europa e la circolazione della banca e della finanza islamica (Integration of Muslims in Europe and Circulation of Is…
2018
