Emission of fragments in Ca+Ca reaction at 25 MeV/nucleon
2013
We discuss experimental data concerning 40,48Ca+ 40,48Ca reactions at 25 MeV/nucleon; the 4π multi-detector Chimera has been used as detection device. Effects that can be attributed to the neutron to proton ratios (N/Z) degree of freedom have been investigated. From the analysis of experimental data it seems that the neutron richness of the interacting system plays an important role on the evolution of fusion-like sources formed in semi-central collisions. In particular, it is observed that the larger is the neutron content and the larger is the emission of heavy residues. Experimental data have been compared with CoMD-II model calculations; a moderately stiff symmetry energy should be used…
Neutrino mass, neutrinoless double electron capture and rare beta decays
2010
We present results of our theoretical calculations on three nuclei of interest from the neutrino-physics point of view: Firstly, we present the second-forbidden decay branch of 115In with the ultra-low Q value and theoretical open questions related to such decays. Secondly, we have calculated estimates for the half-lives of the single-beta decay channels of 96Zr and concluded that the possible contamination from those to the geochemical measurements of 96Zr double-beta-decay half-life is rather small. Thirdly, we have taken a look at the neutrinoless resonance double-electron-capture decay of 112Sn in the light of recent JYFLTRAP Q value measurements and discovered that the badly fulfilled …
Physics of nuclear processes triggered by the interplay of strong and weak interactions
2012
Neutrinoless double beta (0νββ) decay of nuclei is a process that requires the neutrino to be a massive Majorana particle and thus cannot proceed in the standard model of electro-weak interactions. Recent results of the neutrino-oscillation experiments have produced accurate information on the mixing of neutrinos and their squared mass differences. The 0νββ decay takes place in atomic nuclei where it can be observed, at least in principle, by underground neutrino experiments. The information about the weak-interaction observables, like the neutrino mass, has to be filtered from the data through the nuclear matrix elements (NMEs). In this article recent work of the Jyv¨askyl¨a group on the N…
Collinear Resonance Ionization Spectroscopy of Neutron-Deficient Francium Isotopes
2013
The magnetic moments and isotope shifts of the neutron-deficient francium isotopes 202-205Fr were measured at ISOLDE-CERN with use of collinear resonance ionization spectroscopy. A production-to-detection efficiency of 1% was measured for 202Fr. The background from nonresonant and collisional ionization was maintained below one ion in 105 beam particles. Through a comparison of the measured charge radii with predictions from the spherical droplet model, it is concluded that the ground-state wave function remains spherical down to 205Fr, with a departure observed in 203Fr (N = 116). ispartof: Physical Review Letters vol:111 issue:21 pages:212501-4 ispartof: location:United States status: pub…
Gamow-Teller strengths in proton-rich exotic nuclei deduced in the combined analysis of mirror transitions
2005
Isospin symmetry is expected for the T-z=+/- 1 -> 0 isobaric analogous transitions in isobars with mass number A, where T-z is the z component of isospin T. Assuming this symmetry, strengths of analogous Gamow-Teller (GT) transitions within A=50 isobars were determined from a high energy-resolution T-z=+1 -> 0, Cr-50(He-3,t)Mn-50 study at 0 degrees in combination with the decay Q value and lifetime from the T-z=-1 -> 0, Fe-50 ->Mn-50 beta decay. This method can be applied to other pf-shell nuclei and can be used to study GT strengths of astrophysical interest.
Meson and isobar currents in photo absorption and scattering for deuterium

Electro- and photodisintegration of deuterium

Deuteron break-up by inelastic electron scattering or photoabsorption is discussed with emphasis on effects from meson exchange currents and isobar configurationgurations.
Relativistic Effects and Two-Body Currents inH2(e→,e′p)nUsing Out-of-Plane Detection
2001
Measurements of the (2)H((-->)e,e(')p)n reaction were performed with the out-of-plane magnetic spectrometers (OOPS) at the MIT-Bates Linear Accelerator. The longitudinal-transverse, f(LT) and f(')(LT), and the transverse-transverse, f(TT), interference responses at a missing momentum of 210 MeV/c were simultaneously extracted in the dip region at Q2 = 0.15 (GeV/c)(2). In comparison to models of deuteron electrodisintegration, the data clearly reveal strong effects of relativity and final-state interactions and the importance of two-body meson-exchange currents and isobar configurations. We demonstrate that such effects can be disentangled by extracting these responses using the novel out-of…
