Penning trap at IGISOL
2002
The IGISOL facility [1] at the Department of Physics of the University of Jyvaskyla (JYFL) is delivering radioactive beams of short-lived exotic nuclei, in particular the neutron-rich isotopes from fission reaction. These nuclei are studied with the nuclear and collinear laser spectroscopy methods. In order to obtain a meaningful increase, in comparison to a standard level, of precision and sensitivity of such studies an improvement of the radioactive beam quality is necessary. This improvement will be achieved due to a radioactive beam handling which consists of three steps: beam cooling, bunching and (isobaric) purification. The latter means a possibility of obtaining a pure monoisotopic …
Meson exchange and isobar current effects in nuclear photon scattering
1980
Explicit expressions of meson exchange and isobar current contributions to the nuclear two-photon amplitude are derived in the non-relativistic limit. In connection with this amplitude the requirement of gauge invariance on the photon scattering amplitude and on the nuclear electromagnetic interaction operator is discussed in detail.
Meson exchange and isobar admixture contributions to elastic electron-deuteron scattering
1974
The deuteron structure functions for elastic electron scattering and the deuteron static properties have been calculated with the inclusion of isobar admixtures to the deuteron wave function and meson exchange currents. At higher momentum transfers the structure functions are increased significantly because of the strong enhancement of the deuteron magnetic dipole form factor. Roughly 15–35% of this enhancement depending on the momentum transfer arise from the meson exchange currents.
Isobaric multiplet mass equation within nuclear density functional theory
2018
We extend the nuclear Density Functional Theory (DFT) by including proton-neutron mixing and contact isospin-symmetry-breaking (ISB) terms up to next-to-leading order (NLO). Within this formalism, we perform systematic study of the nuclear mirror and triple displacement energies, or equivalently of the Isobaric Multiplet Mass Equation (IMME) coefficients. By comparing results with those obtained within the existing Green Function Monte Carlo (GFMC) calculations, we address the fundamental question of the physical origin of the ISB effects. This we achieve by analyzing separate contributions to IMME coefficients coming from the electromagnetic and nuclear ISB terms. We show that the ISB DFT …
The generalized Gerasimov–Drell–Hearn sum rule for deuteron electrodisintegration
2004
The generalized Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn sum rule $I^{GDH}_{\gamma^*d}(Q^2)$ for deuteron electrodisintegration $d(e,e')np$ as function of the squared four-momentum transfer $Q^2$ is evaluated by explicit integration. The calculation is based on a conventional nonrelativistic framework using a realistic $NN$-potential and including contributions from meson exchange currents, isobar configurations and leading order relativistic terms. Good convergence is achieved. The prominent feature is a deep negative minimum, $I_{\gamma^* d}^{GDH}=-9.5$ mb, at low $Q^2\approx 0.2$ fm$^{-2}$ which is almost exclusively driven by the nucleon isovector anomalous magnetic moment contribution to the magnetic dip…
Dalitz plot analysis of the decay B±→K±K±K∓
2006
We analyze the three-body charmless decay B-+/-->(KKK -/+)-K-+/--K-+/- using a sample of 226.0 +/- 2.5 million B (B) over bar pairs collected by the BABAR detector. We measure the total branching fraction and CP asymmetry to be B=(35.2 +/- 0.9 +/- 1.6)x10(-6) and A(CP)=(-1.7 +/- 2.6 +/- 1.5)%. We fit the Dalitz plot distribution using an isobar model and measure the magnitudes and phases of the decay coefficients. We find no evidence of CP violation for the individual components of the isobar model. The decay dynamics is dominated by the K+K- S-wave, for which we perform a partial-wave analysis in the region m(K+K-)< 2 GeV/c(2). Significant production of the f(0)(980) resonance, and of a sp…
Probing double beta decay by nuclear muon capture
2005
A reliable theoretical calculations on two-neutrino and neutrinoless double-beta-decay rates requires a solid description about the nuclear structure of the intermediate nuclear states. It has been suggested that the ordinary muon capture could be used to probe the structure of the intermediate states in double beta decays.
Coherent two pion photoproduction on C-12
1997
We develop the formalism for coherent two pion photoproduction in nuclei and perform actual calculations of cross sections for $\pi^-\pi^+$ and $\pi^0\pi^0$ photoproduction on $^{12}C$. We find that due to the isospin symmetry the cross section for $\pi^0\pi^0$ production is very small and has a maximum when the pions propagate together. However, the kinematical region where the energies and polar angles of the two $\pi^0$ mesons are equal and their relative azimuthal angle $\phi=180^0$ is forbidden. Conversely in the $\pi^-\pi^+$ production the pions prefer to have a relative azimuthal angle 180$^0$ and the production of the pions propagating together is suppressed. The dominant one-body m…
Baryon resonance analysis from MAID
2009
The unitary isobar model MAID2007 has been used to analyze the recent data of pion electroproduction. The model contains all four-star resonances in the region below W=2 GeV and both single-Q^2 and Q^2 dependent transition form factors could be obtained for the Delta, Roper, D13(1520), S11(1535), S31(1620), S11(1650), D15(1675), F15(1680) and P13(1720). From the complete world data base, including also pi- data on the neutron, also Q^2 dependent neutron form factors are obtained. For all transition form factors we also give convenient numerical parameterizations that can be used in other reactions. Furthermore, we show how the transition form factors can be used to obtain empirical transver…
An isobar model for eta photo- and electroproduction on the nucleon
2001
Eta photo- and electroproduction on the nucleon is studied using an isobar model. The model contains Born terms, and contributions from vector meson exchanges and nucleon resonances. Our results are compared with recent eta photoproduction data for differential and total cross sections, beam asymmetry, and target asymmetry, as well as electroproduction data. Besides the dominant S11(1535) resonance, we show that the second S11 resonance, S11(1650), is also necessary to be included in order to extract S11(1535) resonance parameters properly. In addition, the beam asymmetry data allow us to extract very small (<0.1%) N* --> eta N decay branching ratios of the D13(1520) and F15(1680) res…
