Alcohol Consumption and Long-Term Labor Market Outcomes

This paper examines whether alcohol consumption is related to long-term labor market outcomes. We use twin data for Finnish men and women matched to register-based individual information on employment and earnings. The twin data allow us to account for the shared environmental and genetic factors. The quantity of alcohol consumption was measured by weekly average consumption using self-reported data from three surveys (1975, 1981 and 1990). The average of an individual's employment months and earnings were measured in adulthood over the period 1990–2009. The study offers a philosophical analysis of Nicholas Wolterstorff’s theory of justice and education for justice. Crucial aspects of Wolterstorff’s theory are his understanding of justice as inherent rights and justice as inherent worth. Interrelated to this are the concepts of life-goods, well-being and the good life. Within this framework of rights grounded in worth, the notions of natural human rights and human dignity occupy a special position. Yhdistän tutkimuksessa digitaalisuuden ja luovan kirjoittamisen suunnittelemalla multimodaalisuutta hyödyntävän luovan kirjoittamisen verkkokurssin mallin ja toteuttamalla testikurssin varhaisnuorten ryhmälle. Twenty-five years ago, robotics guru Joseph Engelberger had a mission to motivate research teams all over the world to design the ‘Elderly Care Giver’, a multitasking personal robot assistant for everyday care needs in old age. In this article, we discuss how this vision of omnipotent care robots has influenced the design strategies of care robotics, the development of R&D initiatives and ethics research on use of care robots. Urheilua pidetään suurena ja vaikutusvaltaisena organisaationa. Urheiluseurat voivat omalla toiminnallaan osallistua hyvän tekemiseen yhteiskunnassa. Hyväntekeväisyys on kuitenkin muuttunut aiempaa haastavammaksi ja se on saanut myös uusia muotoja. Tutkielmassani tarkastelen keskisuomalaisten urheiluseurojen edustajien näkemyksiä hyväntekeväisyydestä, sen toteuttamisesta ja vaikutuksista. This article examines working age Russian-speaking migrants, and their paths in looking for a place in the Finnish work and professional communities. The integration process is examined in three focal settings: 1) aspiration settings in which migrants are preparing to participate in work and professional communities; 2) achievement settings in which migrants have successfully entered work and professional communities, and 3) abandonment settings in which migrants have been marginalized from work and professional communities and have given up their aspirations to integrate into these communities.
