The transition state and cognate concepts

2019

Abstract This review aims firstly to clarify the meanings of key terms and concepts associated with the idea of the transition state, as developed by theoreticians and applied by experimentalist, and secondly to provide an update to the meaning and significance of the transition state in an era when computational simulation, in which complexity is being increasingly incorporated, is commonly employed as a means by which to bridge the realms of theory and experiment. The relationship between the transition state and the potential-energy surface for an elementary reaction is explored, with discussion of the following terms: saddle point, minimum-energy reaction path, reaction coordinate, acti…

Common fixed points of g-quasicontractions and related mappings in 0-complete partial metric spaces

2012

Abstract Common fixed point results are obtained in 0-complete partial metric spaces under various contractive conditions, including g-quasicontractions and mappings with a contractive iterate. In this way, several results obtained recently are generalized. Examples are provided when these results can be applied and neither corresponding metric results nor the results with the standard completeness assumption of the underlying partial metric space can. Global Lp -integrability of the derivative of a quasiconformal mapping

1988

Let f be a quasiconformal mapping of an open bounded set U in Rn into Rn . Then f′ belongs to Lp(U) for some p > n provided that f satisfies (a) U is a uniform domain and fU is a John domain or (b) f is quasisymmetric and U satisfies a metric plumpness condition.

Plastic yielding of glass in high-pressure torsion apparatus

2018

International audience; Hardness measurements performed at room temperature have demonstrated that glass can flow under elevated pressure, whereas the effect of high pressure on glass rheology remains poorly quantified. Here, we applied a high-pressure torsion (HPT) apparatus to deform SCHOTT SF6 â glass and attempted to quantify the effect of pressure and temperature on the shear deformation of glass subjected to pressures from 0.3 GPa to 7 GPa and temperatures from 25 ℃ to 496 ℃. Results show that the plastic yield deformation was occurring during the HPT experiments on the SF6 glass at elevated temperature from 350 ℃ to 496 ℃. The yield stress of SF6 glass decreases with increasing tempe…

Silicon Surface Passivation by ALD-Ga2O3: Thermal vs. Plasma-Enhanced Atomic Layer Deposition

2020

Silicon surface passivation by gallium oxide (Ga2O3) thin films deposited by thermal- and plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition (ALD) over a broad temperature range from 75 °C to 350 °C is investigated. In addition, the role of oxidant (O3 or O-plasma) pulse lengths insufficient for saturated ALD-growth is studied. The material properties are analyzed including the quantification of the incorporated hydrogen. We find that oxidant dose pulses insufficient for saturation provide for both ALD methods generally better surface passivation. Furthermore, different Si surface pretreatments are compared (HF-last, chemically grown oxide, and thermal tunnel oxide). In contrast to previous reports, t…

How activator ion concentration affects spectroscopic properties on Ba4Y3F17: Er3+, Yb3+, a new perspective up-conversion material

2018

Abstract Ba4Y3F17 with Er3+ and Yb3+, a promising material for up-conversion luminescence, was synthesized. Excellent isomorphic capacity was detected. Low-temperature measurements show that erbium ions are incorporated in multiple lattice positions, which is inconsistent with the current model of Ba4Y3F17 crystal lattice structure. Activator ion concentration has a different impact on 4S3/2 and 4F9/2, states (for the green and red luminescence, respectively) depopulation. Energy transfer from Er3+ 4S3/2 state to Yb3+ is observed even at low temperature (15 K) while Er-Er cross-relaxation is observed from 120 K and above. Yb3+ concentration has a great impact to red-to-green up-conversion l…

A quartz amplifier for high-sensitivity Fourier-transform ion-cyclotron-resonance measurements with trapped ions

2019

Single-ion sensitivity is obtained in precision Penning-trap experiments devoted to light (anti)particles or ions with low mass-to-charge ratios, by adding an inductance coil to an amplifier connected to the trap, both operated at 4 K. However, single-ion sensitivity has not been reached on heavy singly or doubly charged ions. In this publication, we present a new system to reach this point, based on the use of a quartz crystal as an inductance, together with a newly developed broad-band (BB) amplifier. We detect the reduced-cyclotron frequency of 40Ca+ ions stored in a 7-tesla open-ring Penning trap. By comparing the detected electric signal obtained with the BB amplifier and the fluoresce…

Improve the dielectric properties of PrSrNi0.8Mn0.2O4 compounds by longer mechanical milling

2018

Abstract Structural and dielectric properties of PrSrNi 0.8 Mn 0.2 O 4 ceramics elaborated by a rapid method combining mechanical milling and heat treatment were studied for the first time. The raw materials are milled at different times ( t mil  =  0, 5, 10, 20 and 30 h) and annealed at 1300 °C for 8 h to produce a revealed PrSrNi 0.8 Mn 0.2 O 4 single phase, exhibiting tetragonal structure with space group I 4/ mmm . This result was confirmed by using the TEM/ED pattern for sample milled at 30 h using the [001] orientation. The corresponding lattice images show a well-ordered compound, indicating the absence of stacking faults and the growth of the crystallites. Giant dielectric response …

Comparing the luminescence processes of YVO4:Eu and core-shell YVO4@YF3 nanocrystals with bulk-YVO4:Eu

2017

Abstract Comparative analysis of bulk, non-coated and core-shelled nanocrystalline YVO4:Eu was performed by means of time-resolved luminescence and VUV excitation luminescence spectroscopy techniques. Nanocrystalline YVO4:Eu samples – both as-prepared and YF3 core-shelled – have been synthesized by means of a microwave-assisted synthesis in ionic liquids, which allows to obtain 10–12 nm nanoparticles with high crystallinity. The results show noticeable differences between bulk and nanocrystalline YVO4:Eu in photoluminescence experimental data, which explains by influence of the nanocrystal surface. A YF3 core-shell layer around YVO4:Eu nanoparticles partially recovers the intensity of the E…
