Bromattujen palonestoaineiden rajoitusten vaikutus jätteiden hyödyntämiseen ja käsittelyyn

Tässä tutkimuksessa selvitettiin bromattujen palonestoaineiden määrää eri jätejakeissa. Tutkitut yhdisteet olivat kaupalliset PBDE:t (PeBDE, OBDE ja DBDE) ja HBCD. Näiden yhdisteiden on todettu olevan haitallisia terveydelle ja ympäristölle sekä suoraan että välil-lisesti. PeBDE, OBDE ja HBCD ovat POP-yhdisteitä. Kyseisillä yhdisteillä on pääosin suojattu sähkö- ja elektroniikkalaitteita ja ajoneuvoja. Työ jakaantuu kirjalliseen ja kokeelliseen osioon. Kirjallisessa osiossa tarkasteltiin yhdis-teiden käyttökohteita ja käytön rajoituksia. Materiaalitehokkuus on monen toimijan intressi. Materiaalitehokkuudella voidaan saavuttaa kustannusetuja, parantaa yrityksen kilpailuasemaa markkinoilla sekä synnyttää liike-toiminnalle enemmän kassavirtaa. Materiaalitehokkuudesta on lisäksi hyötyä ympäristölle, koska materiaalien tehokkaalla hyödyntämisellä voidaan vähentää luonnonvarojen kulutusta sekä vähentää syntyvän jätteen määrää. Kalkkikivilouhinnan yhteydessä materiaalite-hokkuus tarkoittaa louhitun materiaalin mahdollisimman korkeaa hyödyntämisastetta. Abstract Concentrations of pharmaceuticals, consisting of four anti-inflammatory and one antiepileptic drug, were studied in the aqueous and solid phase of municipal sewage sludge, collected from a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in central Finland.  This study focused on the biotic oxidation of methane in landfill covers as a technology for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from landfills, particularly those located in the boreal climatic zone. First, methane oxidation was studied in laboratory batch assays in a landfill cover soil consisting of a composted mixture of sewage sludge and chemical sludge which had been installed on the landfill surface 4-5 years earlier. We examine the realization of the umbrella promise to assume national responsibility for the final disposal of spent nuclear fuel. Three case studies are used to illustrate how Finland delivers on the promise to take care of its own nuclear waste - a promise that has greatly contributed to the legitimacy of nuclear power in Finland. The article shows how this promise is being challenged by new competitors, business visionaries, and the public. The case studies illustrate the tensions between those who made the promise and the actors who interpret and mobilize the promise for varying purposes and under changing circumstances. Tracer migration in crystalline rock : application to geological barriers of nuclear waste storage

This work deals with transport of radionuclides in the geosphere. The subject is investigated through characterisation of water conducting fractures, determining of rock transport properties and development of new methods for characterising geological samples. Here, as is often the case, radionuclide transport is investigated indirectly by characterising the structures, where the transport takes place, and directly by measuring transport properties in the gas phase.
