Gender diversity can be considered a useful strategy for improving equal opportunities in the labour market. It is also a valid criterion for optimising human resources in management professions. Unlike other strategies for promoting equal opportunities that have been applied in political or social spheres (quota system, parity representation, etc.), gender diversity combines humanitarian criteria based on citizenship rights for women with maximalist arguments relating to the value such a strategy can add to labour organisations. There are different policies for equality in employment, different “equality plans”, different guidelines, etc. at various levels (European, national, Autonomous Community, etc.) which aim to reduce inequality between men and women in labour matters, such as wages, employment rates, etc. Measures also exist in the social economy to achieve equality between men and women because this principle is behind the cooperation or cooperative principles on which the social economy is based.

The global financial recession reconfigured the economical structures of many countries and in this context the labor markets all around the world faced major salary cuts and job losses. The Romanian economy wasn`t an exception, and for a better understanding of its labor structures we have analyzed the interactions between some of the most representative and measurable indicators using a regional econometric model. The results show that the dynamics of the labor market changed once the economic crisis was installed and are still continuing to modify since the magnitude of this global phenomena was very powerful.

Este artículo presenta los principales temas abordados por los economistas de la educación a lo largo de los últimos cincuenta años. Después de recordar brevemente los antecedentes de la disciplina, se describen las aportaciones teóricas y empíricas realizadas a raíz del desarrollo de la teoría del capital humano, que es el fundamento de la economía de la educación. Más allá de los trabajos que tratan de los efectos externos de la educación, el artículo repasa también las principales aportaciones efectuadas en el análisis de los sistemas de enseñanza y en la evaluación de las políticas educativas.
