Phase-noise Impact on the Performance of mmWave-radars

The impact of phase noise in Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) millimeter-wave (mmWave) radars is investigated in this paper. A FMCW signal is transmitted from the radar, reflected off a moving object and processed at a receiver in the radar. The impact of random phase noise/jitter on the performance parameters of estimated distance, speed and angle of arrival of an object is studied. Our studies show that there exists a threshold at about fifteen percent of the period of the carrier frequency, over which errors substantially manifest in the estimations. With constant sampling intervals (jitter-free case) we provide constructive necessary and sufficient conditions for the design of an asymptotic continuous-discrete observer whose estimation error is input-to-state stable (ISS) from process disturbances and measurement noise. The Assured Forwarding Per Hop Behavior (AF PHB) has been devised by the IETF Differentiated Services (DiffServ) working group to provide drop level differentiation. The intent of AF is to support services with different loss requirements, but with no strict delay and jitter guarantees. In this paper, hybrid dynamical systems theory is applied to the analysis and control of switched converters with Pulse-Width Modulated (PWM) inputs. The system is described by a state-space model with continuous flows and discrete jumps, without averaged equations. The modulation effects are captured in full without using time-dependent signals, by enlarging the state vector to include the PWM waveform generation process. International audience; We numerically study the effects of amplitude fluctuations and signal-to-noise ratio degradation of the seed pulses on the spectral compression process arising from nonlinear propagation in an optical fibre. The unveiled quite good stability of the process against these pulse degradation factors is assessed in the context of optical regeneration of intensity-modulated signals, by combining nonlinear spectral compression with centered bandpass optical filtering. Mode locking of an all-fiber laser by acousto-optic superlattice modulation

Active mode locking of an erbium-doped all-fiber laser with a Bragg-grating-based acousto-optic modulator is demonstrated. The fiber Bragg grating was acoustically modulated by a standing longitudinal elastic wave, which periodically modulates the sidebands at twice the acoustic frequency. The laser has a Fabry-Perot configuration in which cavity loss modulation is achieved by tuning the output fiber Bragg grating to one of the acoustically induced sidebands. Optical pulses at 9 MHz repetition rate, 120 mW peak power, and 780 ps temporal width were obtained. The output results to be stable and has a timing jitter below 40 ps. We examined the effects of spatial frequency similarity and dissimilarity on human contour integration under various conditions of uncertainty. Participants performed a temporal 2AFC contour detection task. Spatial frequency jitter up to 3.0 octaves was applied either to background elements, or to contour and background elements, or to none of both. Results converge on four major findings.
