The aim of this dissertation is to qualitatively describe and explain bad leader- ship and the role of the bad leader within. The dissertation consists of five orig- inal articles and the introductory section. The study is based on the foundation formed by research on bad leadership and research on discourse analysis. The focus is on the role of language in the construction, reconstruction and mainte- nance of meanings. The first of the articles contains the description of the discursive approach applied in the studies. Doping and Moral Disapprovals

This paper explores variance in how people morally disapprove wrongs related to doping. The variance may pertain to what type of moral disapproval a person uses or to what they disapprove of. Our exploration is both conceptual and empirical. Conceptually, we distinguish between four types of moral disapprovals that we call blame, judging blameworthy, condemnation and sadness. We elaborate these four moral phenomena through a conceptual scheme that we call the matrix of moral disapprovals. The matrix is the central conceptual innovation of our paper. In this study, the objective was to understand how Finnish managers build their personal brand on Twitter. More specifically, the goal was to find out what kind of managerial identities can be discerned based on the discourses, linguistic means, and rhetoric through which Finnish managers brand themselves on Twitter. The decision to change the CEO is one of the most important decisions of the Board of Directors in a company. This study increases understanding of the process that leads to a Board’s decision to dismiss the CEO under conditions of poor performance, and of the meaning of attributions in CEO dismissal. The role of the Chair of the Board in this process is also explored. Tutkimuksessa selvitetiin suomalaisten johtajien työn eettistä kuormittavuutta kahden kuvaajan avulla. Ensinnäkin tutkittiin, kuinka usein johtajat kohtaavat työssään eettisesti haastavia tilanteita, joihin liittyy kokemus eettisestä dilemmasta (johtaja ei tiedä, mikä on oikea toimintatapa tai tietää, mutta joutuu syystä tai toisesta toimimaan sääntöjen, normien tai arvojen vastaisesti). Toiseksi selvitetiin, kuinka stressaaviksi johtajat nämä tilanteet kokevat. Finnish managers’ self evaluations of their ethical leadership styles and connections to ethical organisational culture The present study analyses managers’ evaluations of their own ethical leadership styles, and the association of these evaluations with the ethicality of their organisation’s culture. The results were based on a questionnaire study with 902 respondents throughout Finland. Sixty-nine point seven percent of respondents were male, ranging from 26 to 69 years old, with an average age of 46. TIIVISTELMÄ Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin suomalaisten johtajien tärkeimpiä henkilökohtaisia työhön tai uraan liittyviä tavoitteita huomioiden taustatekijät (ikä, sukupuoli, johtotaso ja työsuhteen laatu). Lisäksi tutkittiin, ovatko johtajien arviot organisaatiokulttuurin eettisyydestä yhteydessä työtavoitteiden sisältöihin. Tutkimus perustuu syksyllä 2009 kerättyyn kyselyyn, johon vastasi 902 johtajaa eri puolelta Suomea. Tutkittavat olivat iältään 25–68 -vuotiaita ja enemmistö oli miehiä (70 %).
