Citations are valuable capital in the academy as the number of citations is the most frequently used indicator in evaluating the quality of papers, journals, researchers, and universities. Thus, the characteristics of highly cited articles (HCA) have become a common research topic but the approach has been mainly descriptive with no profound critical reflection of what kind of research is cited, where the research is from, where the research is published, and what do these things mean for edtech research. Imperial straightening devices in disciplinary choices of academic knowledge production

Abstract In this piece, the authors question whether critical language research, in its complex collection of researcher choices, is possible beyond the discursive imaginary of critical academic scholarship. In other words, how do (allegedly) anticolonial efforts re-orient towards contribution to the imperial record? We present three vignettes, through which we grapple with the notion that researcher choice exists within the solipsism of academia. In doing so, we frame research and scholarship as a collection of choices, which we believe are better understood as a collection of fraught dilemmas. Measurement of Open Access as an Infrastructural Challenge : The Case of Finland

Finland has set numeric goals for the development of open access. However, at the moment, no system is available by which this development could be monitored. Poor quality in the metadata records in universities’ research information databases prevents metadata-based analysis of open access publishing progress. This paper shows how the quality problems of Finnish publication data can be resolved through centralizing the services and processes of metadata creation and by improving the interoperability of systems involved in the processes. Digitalisaatio on alentanut tutkimustiedon etsimiskustannuksia merkittävästi ja mahdollistanut tutkimustiedon tehokkaamman leviämisen. Tästä huolimatta tutkijoiden omat julkaisukäytäntöihin liittyvät valinnat vaikuttavat edelleen tutkimusjulkaisujen löydettävyyteen Internetissä. Tämä katsaus valottaa Suomen yliopistojen taloustieteen professorien tutkimusten julkaisukäytäntöjä ja avoimuutta verkossa.
