Multiple online victimization of Spanish adolescents: Results from a community sample.

2016

Little is known about online victimization of Spanish adolescents. The present study aims to determine the past-year prevalence of online victimization in a community sample of Spanish adolescents. The final sample consisted of 3,897 adolescents between 12 and 17 years old (M=14.45, SD=1.59), 1,836 males and 2,049 females, recruited from 39 secondary schools in the east of Spain. The Cuestionario de victimizacion juvenil mediante internet y/o telefono movil (hereinafter, Juvenile Online Victimization Questionnaire, JOV-Q, Montiel & Carbonell, 2012) was applied for the assessment of eight types of online victimization grouped in two major domains: sexual (sexual coercion, sexual pressure, on…

Phenotypic variability and disparities in treatment and outcomes of childhood arthritis throughout the world: an observational cohort study

2019

Made available in DSpace on 2019-10-05T16:54:20Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2019-04-01 IRCCS Istituto Giannina Gaslini Background To our knowledge, the characteristics and burden of childhood arthritis have never been studied on a worldwide basis. We aimed to investigate, with a cross-sectional study, the prevalence of disease categories, treatment methods, and disease status in patients from across different geographical areas and from countries with diverse wealth status. Methods In this multinational, cross-sectional, observational cohort study, we asked international paediatric rheumatologists from specialised centres to enrol children with a diagnosis of juvenile …

West syndrome followed by juvenile myoclonic epilepsy: a coincidental occurrence?

2013

Background: West syndrome is an age-dependent epilepsy with onset peak in the first year of life whose aetiology may be symptomatic or cryptogenic. Long-term cognitive and neurological prognosis is usually poor and seizure outcome is also variable. Over the past two decades a few patients with favourable cognitive outcome and with total recovery from seizures were identified among the cryptogenic group suggesting an idiopathic aetiology. Recent research has described two children with idiopathic WS who later developed a childhood absence epilepsy. Case presentation: We reviewed the medical records of patients with West syndrome admitted to the our Child Neuropsychiatry Unit in the last 15 y…

Evaluation of Fitness and the Balance Levels of Children with a Diagnosis of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis: A Pilot Study

2017

Background: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis is a main cause of physical disability and has high economic costs for society. The purpose of this study was to assess the fitness levels and the postural and balance deficits with a specific test battery. Methods: Fifty-six subjects were enrolled in this study. Thirty-nine healthy subjects were included in the control group and seventeen in the juvenile idiopathic arthritis group. All subjects were evaluated using a posturography system. The fitness level was evaluated with a battery of tests (Abalakov test, sit-up test, hand grip test, backsaver sit and reach, the toe touch test). An unpaired t-test was used to determine differences. Pearson’s co…

Perception of Dating Violence in Teenage Couples: A Cross Validation Study in Spain and Colombia

2020

Background: dating violence, or violence in teenage couples, is a socially interesting topic, due to its prevalence and its possible use in predicting violence in adult couples. The perception of violence, or the detection of abusive behaviors by teenagers and young people (which can be considered as equivalent concepts), is essential to prevent violence itself. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to determine which behaviors are identified as abusive by teenagers and young people, and the severity that they attribute to them&mdash

Purification and reassessment of ligand binding by the recombinant, putative juvenile hormone receptor of the tobacco hornworm, Manduca sexta

1996

The 29 kDa protein from the larval epidermis of the tobacco hornworm, Manduca sexta, that specifically bound photoaffinity analogs of JH I and JH II was produced by a recombinant baculovirus (rJP29). The higher of the two molecular weight forms made corresponded to a protein that could be formed by read‐through of the TGA termination codon to the following TAA. The previously reported, apparent high affinity binding of [methyl‐3H]‐JH I by rJP29 as measured by the dextran‐coated charcoal (DCC) assay [Palli et al., Proc Natl Acad Sci USA 91:6191–6195 (1994)] was found to be artifactual due to endogenous cellular esterases that co‐purified with rJP29 through both DEAE cellulose and MonoQ chrom…

A monoclonal antibody against an adult-specific cuticular protein of Tenebrio molitor (Insecta, Coleoptera)

1989

International audience; To study the sequential expression of the epidermal program in the mealworm Tenebrio molitor, monoclonal antibodies were prepared against the water-soluble proteins from preecdysial adult cuticle. Among the 16 clones obtained, one of them (named K2F6) recognized a 20-kDa antigen, found only in adult extracts but not in the larval or pupal ones, as revealed by immunoblot analysis. Our results strongly suggest an epidermal origin for this protein. The monoclonal antibody K2F6 fails to react with water-soluble proteins from fat body and hemolymph taken during the deposition of the 20-kDa antigen. Electron microscopic immunogold localization of this antigen showed that i…

Occurrence of Kemp's ridley sea turtle ( Lepidochelys kempii) in the Mediterranean

2008

Recent reports of Kemp's ridley sea turtle (Lepidochelys kempii) in the Western Mediterranean calls for a re-assessment of the relative importance and the presence of this species in this sea. Different hypotheses to account for the increase in reports are discussed. The present note provides a new report of the species, a juvenile of 28 cm curved carapace length caught close to Valencia (east Spain) on 16 July 2006. Conservation measures in the area should consider this species in the near future.

Primary Microcephaly with Novel Variant of MCPH1 Gene in Twins: Both Manifesting in Childhood at the Same Time with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis

2020

AbstractThis study is a clinical report on twin females affected by primary microcephaly who displayed at molecular analysis of heterozygous novel MCPH1 variant. The twins at the age of 10 years developed, in coincidental time, a diagnosis of autoimmune juvenile thyroiditis. The main clinical features presented by the twins consisted of primary microcephaly with occipitofrontal circumference measuring −2 or −3 standard deviation, facial dysmorphism, typical nonsyndromic microcephaly, and mild intellectual disability. Molecular analysis of the major genes involved in primary microcephaly was performed and the following result was found in the twins: MCPH1; chr8.6357416; c.2180 C > T (rs 1…
