Characteristics of young offenders depending on the type of crime
2015
The aim of this study is to define a profile of juvenile offenders depending on the type of crime (against property or against persons), according to several socio-demographic variables, and a number of indicators of juvenile risk. Participants were 395 adolescents between the ages of 14 and 18 with a criminal record in the juvenile court over a two-year follow-up period. Results showed that in property-related offences the offender is more likely to be male, from an Eastern European country, and with inconsistent parenting. On the other hand, crimes against persons would be committed mostly by girls, Latin American or African juveniles, and with individual factors such as aggressive behavi…
Constructive Leisure as a Strategy For Adolescents Integration in Conflict with the Law
2014

EVIDENCE FOR KIN-STRUCTURED GROUP FOUNDING AND LIMITED JUVENILE DISPERSAL IN THE SUB-SOCIAL SPIDER STEGODYPHUS LINEATUS (ARANEAE, ERESIDAE)
2001
Abstract In sub-social spiders, restricted dispersal of young (i.e., natal philopatry) and the potential for inbreeding could contribute to within-population subdivision, thus resulting in a population structure similar to that found in social congeners. In this context, we analyzed the origin and mode of individual distribution patterns and their contribution to within-population structure in juveniles of the sub-social spider Stegodyphus lineatus. We investigated the distribution of juveniles for four months after leaving the maternal nest using allozyme genetic markers. We found that isolated groups of juveniles consisted predominantly of siblings, whereas larger aggregations of individu…
Detection of the Spider Predator, Hololena Nedra By Naïve Juvenile Field Crickets (Gryllus Integer) Using Indirect Cues
2004
Summary In many species, prey detect predators using chemical cues, which may be based on the predator’s previous diet. Furthermore, the predator’s previous hunting strategy and diet may affect the prey’s behavioural strategies to avoid predation. Juvenile Gryllid field crickets face predation by spiders, but the responses of juvenile crickets to spiders are unknown. We studied whether naive juvenile field crickets can detect a predatory spider, Hololena nedra, using chemotactile cues (silk, secretions and excreta). We also studied the effect of the predator’s diet on the juvenile field cricket’s anti-predator behaviour. Cricket nymphs avoided the chemotactile spider cues when the spiders w…
Effects of progressive decrease of feeding frequency and re-feeding on production parameters, stomach capacity and muscle nutritional value in rainbo…
2020
Abstract Feeds and feeding constitute the major part of costs in intensive aquaculture. Any action to reduce feeding costs without negatively affecting fish production parameters and flesh quality would improve profitability of farming. Therefore, we studied the effects of feeding frequency on production parameters, stomach capacity and nutritional value of muscle in juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) in an experiment with two stages. First, during the nine-week “starvation period” we fed rainbow trout (initial weight c. 40 g) with four different feeding protocols in an attempt to adapt the fish to a progressive decrease in the number of feeding days. During the second stage, a fo…
Effects of weekend starvation and the duration of daily feeding on production parameters of rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss
2021
Abstract It would often be practical to starve the cultivated fishes over the weekends, e.g. to save in labour costs. We evaluated the possibility that domesticated juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) could compensate for the lost growth of the 2-day weekend starvation by either hyperphagic response and/or by lower feed conversion ratio, compared to the fish fed every day in an 8-week experiment. Rainbow trout (initial weight c. 30 g, temperature 16 °C) starved during the weekends were able to increase feed intake during the weekdays clearly above the intake of the control fish after the first two weekends, also seen as an increase of the compensation coefficients over the last fou…
Violent and/or delinquent women: a vision from the biopsychosocial perspective
2015
Violence and/or delinquency in women have been masked to some extent by society. Thus, the main goal of this work is to deeply analyse the published works on these matters, in order to understand this phenomenon from a neurobiological perspective. Firstly, the theory of the cycle of violence as a facilitating mechanism of violence in women will be analysed, with a special emphasis on neuroanatomical correlates. Subsequently, the relation between drug consumption and violence in women will be explained. Finally, the main biological correlates known as facilitating mechanisms of violence in women will be exhaustively described. The main risk factors for the facilitation of violence and/or del…
