Cuticular protein genes in Tenebrio molitor (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae)

1995

1210-5759; We have previously isolated from the beetle Tenebrio molitor, cDNAs coding for two glycine-rich cuticular proteins named ACP-20, ACP-22 and ACP-17 and an alanin-rich cuticular protein named LPCP-22. The ACP-20, ACP-22, ACP-17 mRNAs are detected by Northern blot and In situ hybridization analysis only in epidermal regions secreting heavily sclerotized cuticle during the pharate adult stage. The LPCP-22 mRNA is detected in most epidermal regions during the secretion of larval and pupal cuticles. Then, its presence is restricted to the epidermal zones secreting intersegmental soft cuticle in the newly ecdysed pupa. The stage- and tissue-specific gene system seems to be convenient mod…

Predicción de la reincidencia con delincuentes juveniles: adaptación del IGI-J

2017

[EN] The aim of this study is to determine the usefulness of the Management and Intervention Inventory for Young (IGI-J) in predicting the past recidivism in young offenders, and the implementation of appropriate intervention programs for that population. A retrospective study with a sample of 258 juvenile offenders who were serving a penal measure was performed. The instrument that evaluated the prediction of recidivism is the Youth Level of Service/Case Management Inventory (Hoge and Andrews, 2002). Its adaptation to spanish is the IGI-J (Garrido, Lopez and Silva, 2004). The results indicate that the IGI-J correctly identified 66.7% of offenders and 68.8% of non-recidivists, with an alpha…

Diel Feeding Features of Juveniles of Two Sparids in the Stagnone di Marsala Coastal Sound (Western Sicily, Italy)

2001

Diet composition, feeding rhythms, gastric evacuation rates, daily rations of Diplodus puntazzo (Gmelin 1789) and Sarpa salpa (Linneo 1758) juveniles were studied in order to investigate their trophic ecology, niche breadth and overlap. These Sparids were collected in the Stagnone di Marsala (Western Sicily), in April 1997, in a 24 hour sampling period. Gastric content of 86 specimens of D. puntazzo (standard length = 31.9 ± 6.6 mm; body wet weight = 1.0 Ī 0.5 g) and of 100 specimens of S. salpa (standard length = 32.3 ± 2.9 mm; body wet weight = 0.6 Ī 0.2 g) were examined. Amphipoda and Tanaidacea were the most frequent prey items in stomach content of D. puntozzo, while Hydrozoa, Bryozoa …

Effect of the juvenile hormone analogue fenoxycarb applied via the host on the parasitoid Phanerotoma (Phanerortoma) ocularis Kohl (Hym. Braconidae)

1993

Abstract Concentrations of 0.001, 0.005, 0.01, 0.05 and 0.1 μg/ml of fenoxycarb (Ro 13-5223) were applied topically to larvae of Ephestia kuehniella Zeller parasitized by Phanerotoma (Phanerotoma) ocularis Kohl. The effect of the treatment and concentration on parasitism rates, preimaginal mortality and emergence rates of the parasitoid were studied comparatively for each larval instar of the host considered. The preimaginal mortality was high when the fenoxycarb was applied on the first larval instar of the host (23–46%) and more higher when applied to the sixth larval instar of the host (40–86%). Consequently, fenoxycarb treatment of the last larval instar of the host produced a reduction…

Adolescent Brain Development and Progressive Legal Responsibility in the Latin American Context

2020

In this article, we analyze the contributions of neuroscience to the development of the adolescent brain and shed additional light on the minimum age of criminal responsibility in the context of Latin America. In neurobiology, maturity is perceived to be complex because the brain’s temporal development process is not uniform across all its regions. This has important consequences for adolescents’ behavior; in their search for the acceptance of their peers, they are more vulnerable to pressure and more sensitive to stress than adults. Their affectivity is more unstable, and they show signs of low tolerance to frustration and important emotional reactivity, with a decrease in the capacity to …

Light intensity preference of juvenile pikeperch Sander lucioperca (L.)

2006

Light intensity preference of the pikeperch was tested in 1-m2 tanks divided into four lateral compartments with a hole in the middle to allow the fish to move between compartments. Two experiments were carried out with both 0+ and 1+ pikeperch: one testing intensities from 25 to 300 lx and the other from 1 to 50 lx. Light preference was observed individually for 5 days at 8, 11, 14 and 17 h. On the first and fifth day, the preference was tested without differences in light intensity (control). In both experiments, both age groups showed preference for the lowest available light intensity. Preference for low light intensity in pikeperch may be related to innate activity and feeding behaviou…
